Honestly? Affirmation of my fellow numismatists plays a part. Numismatics (and pretty much any hobby) in the 21st century has a big voyeuristic component. Do I buy coins and show them just to get "atta boys"? Maybe not. But I enjoy sharing them, and I get a kick about my purchases if others agree it's nice, interesting, or well-bought.

We're evolving to an online hobby.

We are like children who look at print and see a serpent in the last letter but one, and a sword in the last.

Have you ever purchased a hooker to show it off? ;)

No but I have bought a coin knowing I would share it online.

I only buy coins, because I like them, but I do enjoy showing them off and getting opinions.

No, but considering what others would think of your coin if you posted a picture is probably not an unreasonable part of the buying process.

    Is there any other reason?

Never bought only to show here but some coins I buy for my sets and think “the forum will enjoy this one!”

  • coinkatcoinkat Posts: 23,836 ✭✭✭✭✭

That would involve me photographing the coin, developing the technical skill and logistics to post it here which is just not in the realm of my limited capabilities. Next...

Seems silly unless you buy something you know a forum friend would like to own so you buy and offer it to them.

Done the old 180 quite a few times.
I purchase coins and immediately hide them away :)

I don't bother to show most of my additions because I mostly collect modern and when I do get something older it's usually well circulated, which is what I like.

    I don't buy for a 'like' I buy because I like it.

That said, I try for a like when I post, I need a few more for my 'like' count.
    [so please like me.]
