Does not look like one of he Cherry Picker varieties, and Fletcher has over 60 listed and not all have images.

From what I can see from the image, the '1' looks to be clearly repunched, where the other numerals appear to have machine doubling (as does the 1 also, along with the shield). So I would focus on the variety(ies) with the repunched 1, as well as that distinctive die break.

Howards would be able to help, and here is the link to his variety listings:

Beat me to the punch Greg, but I could not find any info about the OP's coin.
Maybe this is a job for the man himself.

    I too agree with WalkerGuy.

There are so many great die varieties in the SHield nickel series, this one would not merit a mention in CPG.

Infinite number of attributions for the Shield Nickel series and that's why I bailed and left Howards to figure it all out.
I'm going to work on the die cracks.....oh wait! I don't have that many years left!

It only seems like an infinite number of shield nickel varieties. Add up the mintages for all years of shield nickels, divide by 10000, and you have a good ceiling on the maximum number of varieties.

The math is left as an exercise for the reader. ;-)

Shield Nickels are so much fun!
I just don't understand why they don't generate the enthusiasm that some other series do....

Good picture of the detail... It would be interesting to see the full coin... Cheers, RickO

Thanks for the responses. Upon review, I see Fletcher does have images of all listed varieties. While I don't think there are an infinite number of varieties, I do believe it is a large percentage of that.

    Here is an obverse/reverse image.

Pretty cool - guessing the obverse die broke not long after striking this specimen!

A large percentage of infinity is still infinity. :-)

Thanks for posting the full photos. I am able to confirm that this variety is not listed. If you would like to get it listed, it looks to me like you are well capable of taking the necessary photos. Directions for the photos I need are here:
