Venice, Fl Short Show report

KkathylKkathyl Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭✭✭

It was a beautiful 77 degrees and a 35 minute drive to the show. I don’t like waking up early so I took off for the show around Noon. The Venue was in a local church much smaller then the Fun show but I liked the set up. Here are a few pictures I took of the show.

I'm terrible at grading these recessed Indians but I'm gonna guess au55. Like both your pickups.

Nice pickups. Check the Stone Mountain as there is a doubled die obverse and reverse.

Nice, although kind of sparse in the aisles. Nice to have the banners to encourage everyone.

What's the difference between a "short show" and a "long show?" The length of rows, length of hot dog buns, restroom lines, hours open? ;)

Thanks for the report. I will go with 55 on the gold. The action looks very light.

Nice report and thanks for sharing some photos of the show.

I'm guessing a AU58 on the gold. It's a really nice looking piece.

Nice picture of the back of Gerry Fortins head

Speaking of Gerry, he writes about the show from the dealer's perspective on his daily blog: seateddimevarieties.com/DailyBlog.htm
to sum up, "busy Friday, slow Saturday."

and thanks for the show report and photos.

Collectorama in Lakeland coming up in a couple of weeks. Good dealer mix. I always find something neat at that show.

    From the blog:

""GFRC enjoyed two sales across six hours of manning the booth. As usual, it is difficult to nearly impossible to sell premium quality coins to those walking around with CDN greysheet. When the sheets appear from an individual's handbag and who is obviously not a dealer, then my energy level is minimal to even engage as the outcome is always the same. My attention does perk up when collectors have a tablet and are using CoinFacts prices as a basis for pricing discussions. The latter signifies a collector who has done homework and is in tune with the current market. ""

Now what difference does it make if it's a collector or dealer walking around with a greysheet? He doesn't want to deal with anyone holding a greysheet but will be the first to complain that business is slow. Then he gets happy when someone comes along wanting to overpay because they are using coinfacts overinflated prices and praises them for doing their homework. LOL it's exactly the opposite. This right here is why I hate dealing with most dealers. Very very few exceptions do I pay over greysheet price for any coin because god knows when you go to sell that same dealer will be standing there offering you 80% of greysheet bid, if your lucky.

difficult coins for most to authenticate and grade, hence why so many fakes way back when

    Thanks for the report.

A local dealer said Florida is coin heaven with much lower prices and collections abundant with all the retirees in the state. Not sure if that's true.
