A unique, previously unknown pattern piece, no doubt.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Too bad Tradedollarguy sold his collection. I know he didn't have this one either. What mystifies me is how did this Pattern for an SF coin get out of the mint and over to China!
Spoke to the seller she is new at eBay and made an honest mistake. I advise that she take the listing down even though the description said it might be a fake. She got it. And took it down. Looks like she has a lot of coins.
That date is not a fake. It was never minted so it's a fantasy piece. I've had ebay tell me this directly while on the phone with them on other similar coins. Kind of like Dan Carrs fantasy pieces. Certainly not one I would buy but the seller at least did the right thing. I don't support these coins, don't get me wrong.

Fake crap is fake crap. It doesn’t matter if it is well made or not and who makes it. It is actually worse when it is well made and people think that makes them semi legit.
I have always said if D Carr was D lee people would be up in arms

IMO, Mr. Carr's products are far above the quality of this and they are very popular and collectible. The only folks up in arms I read about are the ones that missed out on one of his issues. Nevertheless, I rate Carr's products enough BELOW the quality of the great Mr. D. Lee's work that occasionally gets passed as genuine (for a while).

DO NOT by a "raw" Trade dollar on Ebay!
RE: "That date is not a fake. It was never minted so it's a fantasy piece."
No. By US law it is a counterfeit coin. It's a counterfeit regardless of the name someone sticks on it.
@Insider2 I won’t buy any trade dollar on eBay unless it is someone I know and trust. But thanks for the advice. Nice to know you have by six.

It was ended by the time I clicked so have no idea what the seller was selling or what it looked like.

Bob,
It was an 1872-S Trade Dollar. What it looked like is basically irrelevant. Nuff' said...
