As was already mentioned MANY times they are ALL backordered...12noon orders..1pm orders....Fridays orders. Order what you want and they will mint and then ship in May.
No clue why is was assumed they were gone.....
Not for me but I would have gone for the medals alone
These are being made after the orders have been taken/completed.
Below information is lifted straight from the U.S. Mint's email I received earlier.
These sets, limited to 100,000 units across the five product options, can be ordered between noon on January 17, and 3 p.m. on February 20, 2018, unless the limit is reached prior to that date. Production will be based on the orders received within this window. Fulfillment of these sets will begin in late May 2018.

I looked at them, loaded them in my cart, and then cancelled...just couldn't do it. I don't care about them. If it was about $, I'd probably just order 10 Coast Guard, I have family in each branch, but I just can't bring myself to care about this.
One each Coin and Medal set,
One Unc. Dollar, (I feel the Unc will be low mintage)
Order no. 55566XX 12:05
Medal sets all backordered, Unc dollar processing.

Initially, I opted not to buy, but after giving it some thought - especially about the mintages - it occurred to me that there may not be as many "complete" sets as one might think... Remember the 2009 Lincoln cents? The LP1's are the rare one for having a complete set...

Wooooa still available I can buy now! Will they ship before the 30 days so I can get first strike designation at PCGS?
First Strike window starts with release. Which I confirmed with CS as "first shipped". If they ship tomorrow the window opens tomorrow. Unless you keep the mint shipped box sealed and it shipped within those first 30 days. Check the FS page here: https://pcgs.com/firststrike/
If first ship date isn't until May, as some have reported, then I was assured by CS that the FS window would opn on that ship date.
I was told that they would follow up with the mint on actual first shipping date and would adjust the FS chart to reflect the actual first ship date opening the FS window.

If this happens, remember that you'll have to keep the OGP sealed on the medal sets, or the proof commem will not be attributable, or FS eligible. (Since the medal sets will be available for 30 days, I assume all proof commems will be FS eligible, anyway...)
I hate blind submissions.
The Mint added the following wording to their sales pages:
Purchasing this set on back order status will secure the production of your product that will ship in late May 2018.
And they're still available if you want 'em!
Coincidentally, my 2018 SAE bullion pre-order arrived yesterday. 25ozt, $493, including shipping. I will look back at this, vs. the medal set in a couple of years to see who did better... (I didn't buy the bullion as an answer to the commems, it would have been a yearly purchase anyway. But still, it comes close enough to the 5-medal set in price to be comparable...)
I just want to know who verified that Eunice Schriver fought in Word War 1. Or just tell me what magical elf snuck into the mint and beat that obverse with an ugly stick all night long. That thing is a crime against everything.
I wonder if they will let me fill it out NOW and when the coins come in then I ship. Then they have to give me the 1st Strike DESIGNATION? See now thats thinking!
Gluggo - I suggest calling CS 1-800-447-8848, hit 0, ask for David in First Strike department (who I talked to yesterday) and verify that the First Strike clock will begin it's 30 day countdown upon actual shipping and not the first day of sales.
Getting information right from the horses mouth is always more satisfying even if you doubt the voracity of the response.

Thank you for that information I will give them a call and report back. I got a piece I am sending for grading nothing to do with the current subjects but going for the Gold Shield with True View I hope it goes well. Its a older coin 1st time for me on the older coins. But its going to cost $100.00 in charges, but if it grades good should help on its future worth.

Medals WOULD sell out if they were by themselves
Maybe, maybe not. I agree that a $50 price point would certainly be better than the $100 price point. But look at the Liberty medal. 20,000 of a medal is a LOT. Some of the medals would sell out at 20k, others (Coast Guard?) probably would not.
But look at the Liberty medal. 20,000 of a medal is a LOT.
Maybe I'm missing something but the 2016 sold out in a heartbeat (limit 12.5k each)
The 2017 has a limit of 50k which is NOT close to 20k so interest is decreased BUT still sold over 26k on the first day
This issue has the 20k hooked up to a over minted commem which decreases the desire to purchase more than one medal set AND one could have a mintage of 60k and the others only 10k....makes waiting a necessity

You Suck! Awarded 6/2008- 1901-O Micro O Morgan, 8/2008- 1878 VAM-123 Morgan, 9/2022 1888-O VAM-1B3 H8 Morgan | Senior Regional Representative- ANACS Coin Grading. Posted opinions on coins are my own, and are not an official ANACS opinion.
Still, 54.9% of the maximum 100,000 medal sets have been sold through 1/29.
Medals are always a tough sell - and that's when it doesn't cost $100 to get one. I imagine the gold LIberty will also have a bit of difficulty given the price point.
I imagine this is more than a tradition. An ASE planchet would detract from the NCLT. And sourcing a smaller 99.9 would likely make the costs even higher.

what did you order?

Kinda makes zero sense to have the medal FS cutoff date three months before anyone will receive them
That is what makes me think they might be producing now
I agree... we won't know until any are actually shipped, but don't rule it out.
Still available I would of thought MCM would of scooped them all up. Now I have to decide if I want to buy a 2nd set?

Maybe our Friend Mike from HSN might buy them up!

I like the dual holder. It won't fit in the standard blue box but it is nice.
Great more new labels now I have to have it!
Good to see they corrected their mistake in the announcement email. They had a mechanical error, calling the coin a medal too

Never mind, they still have a "mechanical error" on their website. Calling the Air Service medal the Navy medal, lol.

Just got email notice that the Unc. Dollar has shipped. Nothing else on the order yet.

Nope. they may never. 20,000 is a lot for any mint medal and the price point is HIGH.

Mintage of 50k takes away the interest....20k would have been toast
Maybe. It's still a set of 5 with 20k of each with a pretty high price point.
Assuming 20k each...actually 100k total
First numbers are out...
Air Service Medal Set - 9,343
Army Medal Set - 11,272
Coast Guard Medal Set - 7,695
Marine Corps Medal Set - 9,417
Navy Medal Set - 9,334
Well, I suppose it could be worse...
well, they are halfway to a sellout on the medals.
Thanks for the update!
The Uncirculated dollar is going to be a winner with this issue.

Still not going to be worth $50 each...
