Great Francis Lovelace token! Do we know who struck this?

KM-Tn9, W-1705 variety, considered to be Rarity-6.

A lovely, eye-appealing and distinctive design unlike anything else in the American colonial series.

Struck for Francis Lovelace, second Governor of New York(e), with the intricate obverse design an allegorical rebus on his name (in the form of Cupid using the lace of love on Psyche), while the reverse bears his family crest and, importantly, what we believe is the earliest appearance of a complete AMERICA on any colonial coin or token.

And this is the finest known specimen by a very considerable margin, displaying this lovely design in its most complete and detailed form, all original, lustrous and with choice golden brass color.

Lovelace ended imprisoned and died locked up in the Tower of London.

Here's some good info on this token and the reasoning for the Lovelace attribution. It's interesting that the theory is that these are private patterns that were placed into circulation.

Interesting token.... Thanks for the link to the history. Living in this part of NYS, which was settled in the 1600's, I keep hoping for items such as this to surface from some old cellar hole or residence (many are still standing and inhabited - stone buildings). Maybe the 1714 Gloucester Court House Token. There are 2 known that I'm aware of. I think that the best is a F12. The token in the OP may actually be it at the end of the day. Just a guess

Here's some nice history. Francis Lovelace ran the King's House Tavern in lower Manhattan. I wonder if these tokens were meant to be circulated in the US. The Notre Dame article indicates these circulated in the UK. Are any thought to have circulated in the US?

The specimen below is from the Fonrobert Collection, traceable to 1878. Do we know the provenance of the CRO specimen?

@Zoins I think they were dispersed into circulation in England. Lovelace might of been disgraced by this time and tossed into the Tower of London to rot for losing territory to the Dutch

This one was graded by PCGS as MS65 (and mentioned in PCGSCoinFacts), but PCGS did not have a holder to encapsulate it at that time:
