CAC Submission Prices Increasing as of February 1st.

Peace_dollar88Peace_dollar88 Posts: 1,228 ✭✭✭✭✭

Make sure to get your coins you planned on submitting to CAC before the 1st of February. Coins under $10k will now cost $14.50 if stickered. Just a modest Increase in submission price. Nothing to crazy thankfully.

I have a lot of coins to submit to the big two. Maybe one of you will submit some of this stuff to the Big One, some day. :) God bless you all, just the same.

another increase? if I recall they just increased it about 6 months ago...I like to use their services but the price is getting unreasonable very quickly for the less expensive coins that I submit

Not enough of an increase to really matter. But I spoke to a dealer earlier who checked to see cac vs. non cac pricing on key dates and he was shocked and determined to send in his 16-d.

Sometimes, a price increase is a grab for money....

Sometimes, it's required to cover costs....

Sometimes, (and probably much more rarely), it's an attempt to limit the amount of business you take in!

I wonder if they are just trying to limit the number or low cost coins they are forced to deal with? It seems I'm starting to see stickered coins that really, (in my opinion), don't need to be stickered, even if they deserve it.

I don't mind another small increase but I hope this doesn't become an annual / bi-annual thing. At least the ones that don't sticker are still free for collector members. I hope John doesn't mess with that..

They have been in business over 10 years. I think this is just the second increase affecting collectors.

I do agree that if you're sending just low value, common stuff it might give you pause to just send everything willy nilly. I can appreciate they're not wanting to deal with low cost stuff all day every day.

    They're service is important IMO.

If throttling down volume is the goal, they might consider reversing their pricing structure. This would probably better help them meet their other objectives too. Crazy talk?

Their website has had that blurb for years. Email/contact/sign up and, as they get to the waiting list, they will contact you.
That blurb was there when I signed up and it took about a week to be contacted. Times may vary.

Contact them to become a member. I called them. They will send you forms to complete and then put you on their waiting list. They will ask you for references and ANA membership information. I completed everything, mailed it to them, and became a member six months later when I received a membership package out of the blue.

When I first joined CAC (2009) it was $10/coin and then it went $12.50 around 2013 didn't it? Now $14.50 for 2018.

Still sounds like a numismatic bargain to me. o:)

  • robkoolrobkool Posts: 5,934 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have been trying to get in as a member for over 5 years now, and never heard back... I guess I will have to contact them again.
I wonder if they even have a phone number to reach them ???

Seems it would be worthwhile to gain membership for those who sell coins... JA has definitely made a market for his service. Cheers, RickO

CAC adds new submitters on a regular basis. The average wait from the time of request to the time of acceptance is generally 3 to 6 months (on average). For those who have tried in the past and have given up for one reason or another, I wish this was know previously.

To contact them: 908-781-9101. Ask them to send you their application materials.

...and their turnaround time is fairly quick too...usually a week after receiving the coins.

Gotta wait for an invite to the circle of trust to submit. Looking at $300 for a box of 20 plus shipping costs. Over a grand to put little stickers on three boxes of pre-graded slabs, this does not look like an expense I want to make right now. Unfortunately it appears to be a pre-requisite before selling anymore. JA is a smart man... what a pain!

Submissions that are at CAC by the 31st will qualify for the current rates. So we have to receive submissions by the 31st for the current rates to be effective.

Anything that is received on or after February 1st 2018 (a Thursday) will be charged according to the new prices.

So postmarked by 01/31/2018 won't work.

come on bill jones, say cac is bad deal before they raise the prices...

while pcgs and ngc are good deals at their prices, cac is a better value because it brings you extra guidance and more money for your coins.

A trip to Far Hills NJ is easy and it’s a real pleasure to meat JA and the staff you’re treated like Royalty and the coin talk alone is worth it It’s a great deal too that collector members are charged nothing for coins that don’t bean. His fees are in line and add Much value to your slab. Plus, when you sell they may buy

I wonder if this is CAC’s way of turning away common date widget coins. I couldn’t blame him for wanting to avoid the classic coin era analogs of the state quarter series.

Combination of demand management and driving up the cost to better align with the value (which is still widely in favor of the submitter).

Honestly they ought to charge more for <$200 coins for all cheap coins sent in for gold stickers. I can't imagine sorting through a box of rattler/OGH common date Mercs, Buffs and Franklins, what a waste of time.
