Finally finished my Dansco 7070 type set

rlawsharlawsha Posts: 1,036 ✭✭✭

Took me a long time but I finally finished my type set. Of course now I want to go back and upgrade a few! Most all of the higher dollar coins were PCGS crack outs.

Very nice set. Still have a half dozen slots to fill in my 7070, including the LS and trade dollars.

Thank you everyone. It is so much fun to pull out the set and show it to friends who have no idea what old coinage looks like. I tried very hard to stay away from whizzed crap and items that would never grade. Like I said before a lot of the stuff was PCGS crack outs because I was afraid of getting some of that counterfeit stuff on the bay.

    This one:

I kind of jumped around and didn't fill the holes in any particular order. A lot depended on budget at the time and coin availability. Took about four years of off an on buying.

As with a lot of things the hunt is sometimes the best part. For instance I thought I did great at a local coin auction only to buy a dime with a hole in it. Serves me right for not paying attention. :)

I would guess I spent $5~6K ish.... depends a lot on how picky you are. Some of the coins like the early dollars are tough to find at a good price and still have good eye appeal. The set can be completed for a lot more or a lot less depending on the coin quality.

Congratulations! I love the look of the Dansco set.

I wish Dansco had a more complete type set offering like the Whitman albums. I’m doing the Whitman one because it has all the holes, but the eye appeal is just not the same.

It is a good hobby and plugging holes is one part. Upgrading is another part. Making friends is the best part.
