I did. Now they are fond memories. And this attests to the belief that we don't really "own" these coins but are their honored caretakers. I have as much satisfaction having owned these (and having a Pedigree) than I did when I possessed them.
Another outstanding example of a tough date... Especially with this look. In my opinion, 66 seems appropriate. However, my view may be a tad more optimistic than how the TPG sees which might be 65 or 65+
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
I don't know what happened to my post here... Seemed to vanish. ReadersDigest Condensed version. Terrific coin... I see as a 66 but I have this feeling TPG may have graded it a 65 or even a 65+
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
This was an under-graded coin from the day I first saw it until I sold it. I have seen EIGHT of the supposed 11 coins graded as such and this one stood head and shoulders above the rest.
In fact, JACAC bid me more prior to the auction that it brought. It's an MS64.
Keep in mind that there were no "PLUS" grades in 2010.
We should establish a reference thread just so information such as this is available at our fingertips... With a little searching. I remember when there was no AU53 grade... Can't remember when it was introduced, but it would be nice to know

Actually plus-grading started in March 2010. But I deduce the '20-S did not get one.
Lance.
You deduce wrong. My coins sold in Jan. 2010 FUN. This would most certainly have gotten a plus. It sold at a record price (still stands)< the same price that Simpson's 1920-S sold for. This one was nicer, Lance.

Exactly !
When you "own" a Coin - is it usually locked up , kept in a very secure place? A really superb quality Photograph taken by the "Ansel Adams" of Coin Photography might be a really valuable thing to have.
Others might be interested in owning really quality Coin Photos.
The Balls free. Someone pick it up and take it to the end zone.

As long as I was financially able to keep them, I'd likely not consider myself just a caretaker. Would be nice to be able to pass them on as family keepsakes/heirlooms but that's not always feasible.
Possibly upgradeable, it would be interesting to know how my previous coins are doing. I have never noticed a coin I have previously owned surface at auction, etc..
The TPG do not like awarding higher than 64 for the 1920 Saints. I’ve looked and there appears to be a TPG imposed ceiling on these coins due to the price jump. Oddly, the same seems to be true to a lesser degree with MS64 1908 Motto Saints that look more like 65s or 66s.
@saintguru ....I remember when you divested your 'Syrup of Saints'...but sure nice to see you kept the pictures and are showing them here.... It was a truly great collection. Cheers, RickO
Thank you for the very informative post saintguru. I would have been in the 65 to 65+ camp from your picture, and I think that I would still be there after reviewing the 20-s TrueViews in CoinFacts.

And I think I've used all of them in my calendars by now, too. Your 31-D is Miss December 2017.

I should have said, to be correct, that the '20-S does not have a plus, not that it didn't get one. So 65?
Lance.
Nope. A very strong MS64.

64?? Wow.......I was in the 65 to 65+ camp.
i was guessing 64, but i am too late. i noticed the strike is a little soft and there is a hit on the sun. super nice coin though.
i love that 31-D. wOw!
Wow! Great coin and clearly not a 64 today.

Indian Head $10 Gold Date Set Album
Per my comment above about the TPG companies’ aversion to acknowledging any grade above 64 for a 1920 Saint. Price jump is too high.

This is a 66 in todays standards
What a coin. I would have resubmitted that one until the cows came home. I think it is a 65 all day and night.
