My First Coin Giveaway-Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

KkathylKkathyl Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭✭✭

I wanted to do a Giveaway for my 500 points and we are getting very close. So here is the deal. Anyone can say "count me in" and they will have name put in once. If you want to have more chances to win then you will have to add a separate post with a picture of your favorite raw US coin. that will get you another shot. To get one more final name add, you will need to say something nice about another forum member and be specific. Tell us why you like that Member and what they have done to contribute to learning or enjoyment of coin collecting.

So everyone has the opportunity to have 3 entries to win.

The Prize:
The Group will decide if we have 1 winner our 4 winners. Majority rules here. If you enter 3 ways at the end of your post talking about another member you want to say something nice about add at the end Share 4 ways or Split the Set or One winner.

2017 American Liberty 225th Anniversary Four-Medal Set

Entry Deadline is 12/24/2017 winner/or winners will be PM and announce by 12/26/17

    Count me in, Kathy!

That's not a very fair question to answer. There are far too many nice people on the forums who contribute a great deal.

Bill Jones, Keets, Ricko, where does it end!

For that matter, Kathy, our PM conversations have been very pleasant and I personally feel that you will have much more to contribute.

    Cheers

    Bob

    Count me in,

Now, for another entry: There are so many members to comment on but I'm going to pick RogerB as #1 because he digs up stuff in his posts here that would have probably remained unknown to us and general numismatics for decades to come.

  • KkathylKkathyl Posts: 3,762 ✭✭✭✭✭

Good Work @Outhaul @Insider2 don't expect you have to pick 1 agree to that. I just like to hear the Good things folks have done for others. Even the little things help a lot. I even appreciate the critics it make us all grow.

My favorite raw coin would be this 1839-O over O 10C No Drapery RPM FS-501 104a-1 that was given to me by Secret Santa a couple years ago. This coin stirred my interest in varieties and has not let up since.

I would like to recognize @robec for his amazing talent in imagery of some of my coins that I have. The quality of his imagery really brings out the details in my coins (big images) and there is usually something that I did not see before when I receive the images.

My Favorite raw coin is a 1895-O Morgan that was previously slabbed ICG AU-53, it now resides in my Morgan Date set Dansco album. I love the look of it and it fits in well with the rest of my date set that is MS-63-ish.

top right coin, the one with the cud...favorite!

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,515 ✭✭✭✭✭

saying something nice about another forum member is pretty easy. MrHalfDime is always willing to share his knowledge directly with me and indirectly with people on this forum, other forums, those who read the official journals of the Liberty Seated Collectors Club and the John Reich Collectors Society, and likely many other coin research/discussion groups and organizations. Plus, he's a Patriots fan that remembers when they really sucked and was still rooting for them back then.

The prize should be provided intact to the winner of the giveaway. Sets deserve to be intact (a set is more likely to be retained by its owner if it is intact, IMO).

Here is one of my favorite raw coins. Why? It is nothing special, just a really nice 1879-S Morgan that has, sadly, been cleaned. I like it because it is a reminder that things are often better left in their natural state and sometimes despite the most well intended efforts sometimes end up for the worse.

It is hard to identify a single member over the years, many have stuck around, some have moved on to other things and sadly some have headed west. I have only met in person a couple of members here, but have developed friendships with many of them and have been schooled by many others on any number of numismatic topics. Accented Hair Kennedy's? Thanks Russ. Yap Money? Thanks Lord M. Risks of driving on bald tires? Thanks Bongo Bongo. What happened on this day in 1898 at the Mint? Thanks Roger B. To CAC or not? Jury is still out on that one! Anyway my point is that for me, too many to just pick one.

    K

Oh...and Merry Christmas to you too!!!

    Count me in.

Roger B. for his masterful break-through research, and Tom. B. for his perennially cordial, thoughtful, wise and well-crafted guidance.

Lot of other folks for their warmth, friendship and encouragement, past and present. Remarkable how a hobby brings together folks, often with nil in common other than their passion for coins, who otherwise would never have met and come to enjoy one another.

@Type2 bought a few of my palladium coins this year, and the deal went very smoothly, and I would like to thank him for that! That helped free up some cash for other purchases. I don't have a ton of raw coins in my collection, so will post one that I bought raw, and graded recently.

Something nice about another member? How about ricko, he can be found on almost every conversation, always contributes a straight forward sensible point of view, and has some very good advice to many many questions!!!

I think one winner is nice but split the prize and let there be more winners!!

Thanks for a giveaway Kathy~! That's really nice of you....Merry Christmas!

What a great giveaway. Count me in and Merry Christmas to all. Sadly, some of my favorite people on here are gone.

  • hchcoinhchcoin Posts: 4,837 ✭✭✭✭✭

My favorite right now. I also have a 1786 New Jersey Copper that is very rare and a super cool coin. I don't have a good picture.

  • hchcoinhchcoin Posts: 4,837 ✭✭✭✭✭

My favorites on the boards are:

@BillJones - Always willing to share his knowledge and has some of the coolest coins.
@ricko - Always has something positive, encouraging and kind to say (unless we are talking about tarnish) ;)
@RogerB - Love your research and how you share it with the rest of us.
The PM forum - They are a rowdy bunch but always seem to keep it civil, entertaining and fun.
