What do you think when a major auction company "pick of the week" is a 1936 dime?

Seems like very "small potatoes" for a big auction house like Stack's-Bowers to be touting?

Nearly everybody draws mental lines, date-wise, in their U.S. coin collecting.

One of my personal lines has long been the year 1935. Last traditional 90% silver dollars for circulation in that year. Mintages for regular circulation coins begin to pick up about 1935 too, after several low or no mintages Great Depression years.

But I'm inconsistent as hell. A decent roll of Franklin halves is worthwhile to me. There are several modern commemoratives that catch my fancy. Not that I expect S-B to feature those.

A 1936 dime doesn't get me excited no matter what the grade.

What if it were an 1881-S $1 in PO01,CAC?
To me, it shows they're willing to work for chump change just to make the smaller collector happy.

Just trying to appeal to the large number of 20th c. coin collectors. Not more complicated than that.

For stacks to offer it, they must have a hoard. Not worth it for them otherwise.

I like the 1936 Dimes as a good year for type. Many well struck examples can be found.

    That's purdy.

I was thinking the same thing. Is there a link to the offer?

Fine with me. Some of us like those sorts of small potatoes.

This and there's nothing wrong with it. It is a fantastic coin design. For them to do this once in a blue moon is fine. If it offends the coin snobs that must only see 5, 6 or 7 figure coins in their inbox, so be it.

The only 1936 Dime that would interest would a Proof, and I already have one.

I would say if that the most exciting coin that they have for the week, that it has been a darn dull seven days.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I'd be surprised if they sold a roll's worth of them for a few grand total , but it will bring attention to the other less-expensive coins in their inventory and possibly their internet auctions.

They are not selling 36 10c's. They are strengthening their brand at the base of the collecting pyramid.
