Anyone has successed to cross pcgs the second time after the first failed attempt

jt88jt88 Posts: 3,203 ✭✭✭✭✭

I heard some people try couple times to send to pcgs to cross after the first failed attempt and finally get cross. Can anyone share his experience if he try more than once for the same coin. Thanks

    absolutely.

grading teams can change, so you have different eye balls. or your coins could have followed a really bad group which makes them tighter. there are many reasons why it takes more then once sometimes.

How long do I have to wait before I send it again? Thanks

Tried a coin twice, third time the charm. Then Cac’d. It is what it is.

you can send it back in right away. They won't be "looking for it"

usually any long beach show is good. they seem to pay more attention there. hard to say if you should wait or not. if its not a classic rarity, they are not going to remember it

    Here are a couple stories...

Once tried a NGC bust half 58 many years ago and it failed to cross because of questionable color. Hung on to it because I really liked it. Fast forward about 5 years later....sent it in to CAC, got the green bean and then tried crossing again and voila, PCGS 58!....also got the green bean back on it!

I also tried another NGC bust half 58 many years ago and it crossed to PCGS 55. Fast forward several years later.... I sent it in for a green bean and got it. This past summer I sent that 55 CAC bust half for regrade at PCGS and it upgraded to 58! Gonna send it back one day to CAC to try and get the green bean back on it in its higher graded holder.

Hope you get your coin in the grade and holder you want!

i had a Bust half that was NGC 58. I tried to cross it to PCGS and it came back 50 on two attempts. I let it alone for a couple of years and tried again. This time it came back 55.

I try not to get hung up on a cross-at-grade and instead simply hope to get it in PCGS plastic. If I think it deserves better then I have it regraded.

I've done dozens of upgrades in this manner.

I tried to cross an AU58 1923-S in an NGC holder, and they said DNC. I immediately cracked it sent it back and PCGS graded it MS63. I now crack everything before sending it to PCGS for grades.

Yes, I sent PCGS an 1880-CC Morgan in ANACS 65 and it didn't cross the first time, but it did the second time.

Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

Smoke and mirrors... Ive went to a show today and saw some recently graded PCGS MS66 Peace $.... my MS65s from 10+ yrs ago are nicer than the ones they are grading 66 now. So just sit and wait... crosses, regrades - its all about timing.

Cracking and submitting raw is almost always the better strategy (vs. a cross). Exceptions are coins that might be judged AT or cleaned.

When it doubt, do not crack it out.

There are countless stories here of such happenings.... Grading is subjective... as such, grades have a large margin.... sometimes the margin is more than large.... until grading standards are established, this will continue. Of course, if standards are established, then coins will be in their 'forever slab'...Cheers, RickO

I just sent in two coins and got DNC. Both are CAC and pretty nice. I'm tempted to crack out. Should I crack out, wait and retry or cross at any grade? I would really like them in PCGS? I'm not in any rush.

See the Leebone my Morgan should be a 66-67 but now it is in a 64 hold thread.

I know of many coins that were tried to cross at LEAST 6-12 times and finally crossed. Personally, I had a six figure coin in an NGC 64 holder (probably 15 years ago) that I tried to cross 6 times and would not cross. Finally, another dealer offered to buy it at my price if I could get it into a PCGS 63 holder (it was worth another 100K in a PCGS 64 holder). Rather than cross it I cracked it at a LB Show, where it promptly graded 64! Sometimes the NGC holder can "kill" the look of the coin (the holder can be scratched, etc. ) and seeing the coin raw can make a difference.

Some people told me that I should submit only 1 or 2 coins at a time. He said if I submit too many PCGS will not cross them over. Is that true? Thanks.

Working on one right now...it should arrive at PCGS tomorrow, which means I will get it back next year.
