Who cares? As long as PCGS assigns grades that make me happy when I submit, they can hire kindergarteners to grade for all I care.

Straight from the horse's mouth (or fingertips) "by the way, pcgs is flying me out to do a test grade. if i pass, i'll be a grader in august."

This is completely unacceptable. Our hosts are paying expenses for a multiple-timed banned and trouble maker, and then maybe even offering him a job as one of our graders? No way.

Well, at least one thing is for sure. He won't get the position, because he surely cannot grade coins. The entire last debacle he brought here was one of him being "scammed" out of $1500, when he bought Roosevelt dimes sight unseen, removed them from their holders, then tried to ask for a refund when he found out they were not to his liking.

Having him on the board of graders (by the act of the devil he would) would be a detrimental drag on the grades being pumped out and possibly ruin PCGS' image. It's an imploding situation waiting to happen.

The exposeé needed to happen, and better sooner than later.

Personal attacks that have nothing to do with YOU could get YOU banned.

Stay out of it, not your business. Defemation of character surrounding a job isn’t where I would want to be stirring the pot.

Before this gets completely out-of-hand, we should remember that simply because someone says or types something does not mean it actually happened.

And thats the thing. In all honesty, knowing someone who has no idea how to grade is on the staff (if he gets the job), I am less likely inclined to send my coins in for grading (as such has been the case in the past ~6 months. Granted, there are "happy grades" here and there, the majority have to be sent in a minimum of 2 times to get a correct grade, often with a large swing.

It's getting a bit ridiculous that the standards of quality are being lowered to boost output and expand their industry.

I'm all for expanding industry (they moved to a new headquarters, awesome!), but do it correctly. I understand he will have to test and more than likely will not pass. Having known him personally, there will be a way he will make it to be a grader, and I (as others should be) am concerned for the future of CLCT, specifically PCGS.

Just because industry expansions occur does not point need to lower quality, yet we see it every day across the world.

I think it is insulting to our host to suggest it would hire some random collector off of the street with no training or supervision. I am not a TPGS grader, but I'm sure there is more involved. Maybe @ColonelJessup could tell you more.

I also think it is a bit odd to rely on unsubstantiated hearsay. Do we know this is a fact or is this merely a case of someone spouting off at the keyboard?

The thread was removed as the person that got ripped-off on the purchase of the toned dimes was under age, at the time. The kid overestimated the grades and It quickly turned into a brutal arguement involving legal advise on the sale/contract.

To op where was that mentioned?

Along with making a false statement about a company that post here. I dont see how in any form PCGS will involve this to happen and if so true I am sure they wanted discretion on it.

Most of the excitement was captured in @cameonut2011 's post above. His post with the quote was a quick action to record the original post, and it disappeared only minutes later (while I was reading the thread last night).

Not sure what to say on the larger issue. The person referenced initiated a weird and ultimately very contentious thread some months ago, and now (not sure how it is known) he supposedly is up for a job at PCGS, unrelated to his prior shenanigans, of course.

One thing I don't get is, that poster was apparently a minor several months ago, so how would he be in the running for a job at PCGS where they were going to fly him out for an interview? At best he is 18 now - what could his resume possibly look like? Anyway, I assume PCGS will do what is best for them and their customers, whatever that may be. And the whole thing could even be a hoax by the disgruntled banned poster.

In any case, I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

what's w/all the stress and useless energy (including mine) about a non issue.

I'll bet a sample slab to the first CU member that the person in question will not get the job.

    end of story.

Part of the hiring process is interviewing interested applicants. I'm sure that PCGS will conduct a proper interview and test appropriately. Interviews, in my experience, are usually written and oral.

I dont imagine pcgs is flying random people into CA spending hundreds of dollars unless the person has some credibility or history behind their grading skills.

I received an email from Gary 24 hours before the first post in this thread. In the email to me Gary never said "pcgs is flying me out to do a test grade. if i pass, i'll be a grader in august."

What he said in my email was that a friend of his, who works for a well known auction house, told him he (the auction house employee) "could talk to some people and that PCGS shouldoffer to fly me out for the test grade."

Gary, being young, was excited and his exuberance was abundantly evident. Being a grader at PCGS has been his dream job since he was 14, he'll be 18 in July. I can't blame him for his excitement over the prospect of being tested for something he has wanted since his interest in numismatics was born. Who wouldn't be excited if an opportunity to test for their dream job arose?

Something sure was lost in translation somewhere.... That version seems a bit more realistic.

I am glad that he is an eager young collector, but I recall that prior thread and to be successful he will need not only a good eye but also some maturity and judgment skills. if only to negotiate the office politics and get along with his co-workers. If he has a good eye for grading, the other qualities should be easier to acquire.
