OLDP Seated Dollar from JJTeaparty

I bought this one for my 7070 from JJ Teaparty nearly 25 years ago. Pre-internet, they were one of the most reliable dealers that you could do mail order with, either from CW ads or their cream colored mailers. I still have a number of coins from them in that album.
Feel free to share any of your seated dollars, or purchases from JJT.

No pix. And what is OLDP?
Sorry, I hit Post Comment from my phone before the photos loaded.
Old Purchase, as opposed to New Purchase.
Nice dollar. Did your album add to the toning in those 25 years?

I wish I had visited their Boston store when I lived in New Hampshire years ago. They got me started with a type set. I remember purchasing via mail-order - way before PCGS was conceived- a full detailed, "GD04" Chain cent for 1K (a big purchase for me back then) along with my first 1795 (FN12) FH half. Lots of other goodies too. So neat to get a package from them.
Fast forward a few years and my move to California this almost complete type set allowed me to purchase my first home (downpayment). I miss so many of those coins as their grading was conservative and their coins wholesome and never a disappointment.

One of the best coins I bought from Teaparty in the pre slab days was an 1801 half dime. I bought it from the late Bruce Longyear who worked there for a couple of years. Today that coin is in a PCGS EF-45 holder. It is a late die state piece that should have graded AU-50.
Love JJT. They did a nice job upgrading their website but they just need better photography.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Lovely coin! I feel pretty bad I haven't bought anything from Teaparty in years.

J.J.Teaparty on Bromfield street. Many misspent hours of my youth ( 1960's) were spent staring through their cases.
They treated me well considering my age and buying power. I remember one large purchase I had made, probably in the three figure range ( 1.00- 2.00 ). My new purchase was properly packaged in one of their little envelopes and bagged.
When I got home I found a buffalo nickel had been included with my purchase.
Too bad that whole area has gone to sh@t....Many fond memories of old downtown Boston.

I bought this nice-looking 1824 quarter from them about 15 years ago. Not pre-internet, but definitely pre- good pics. JJTP have some very nice coins and I used to stop into the shop every once in a while when I lived in Boston.
Haha... that one of the few dealers I seek out when I'm at the Baltimore show!! I purchased both the Seated Half and the CBH that currently reside in the latest iteration of my 7070 from them. Gail and Liz are great!!

Nice seated dollar! I'm in search of a nice example for my PCGS 7070 registry set
Bromfield St. used to be the place, along with Don’s Bid Board. I really really enjoyed those days. Wish I had had some $$$ back then.

Nice coin! I bought a few nice pieces from them though none in a long while. They were always very easy and pleasant to deal with.
Very nice !!!
OLDP !
I like it.
They are most definitely one of the "good guys". I've bought some real nice Lincolns from them...all perfectly graded raw and just like what they explained in their write up of the coins.

Nice dollar. Did your album add to the toning in those 25 years?
Yes, the patina has grown richer and deeper over the years in the Dansco.
Nice seated dollar! I'm in search of a nice example for my PCGS 7070 registry set
In addition to my set, I've helped a number of folks with theirs over the years. Invariably the last coins acquired are the seated dollars and the Classic Head large cent.
Wow, that's a nice Seated Dollar!!!
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

The first time I ever spent more than $100 on a coin was a raw VG1918/7-S SLQ from JJTEA. for $1000. Had two holes in my VF-UNC set (the 1916 was much later in a MS-63 slab).
Graded 4 times (if CAC is counted) first thru
ANA photo, F-12,
Small white ANA slab, F-15
Crossed to PCGS F-15
Recently to CAC, F-15 CAC
Since that time I've added two other overdates, a VF-30 small white ANA slab from the new JJTEA ,and a PCGS AU-50.
Now that it's time to pare down collection I've sent The VF-30 to the next FUN Show Heritage sale,
Next will be the AU-50 and the first will probably be cracked out and placed in the Capitol holder at some time.
Wife will be very reluctant to sell the set as she has an emotional attactment to the set. Weekends in the our early years (late 70's) were rides to coin shows looking for VF-XF SLQ. Every time I see the capitol holder I recall going to a Boston area show and after spending $25 for a nice XF-AU stopped at the bar for two drinks. Felt so guilty spending that extra $10-15.
In 3 years my dental practice had yet to break even and it took my other job at another dental office and wife's salary to pay the bills.
Treat of "Going out to dinner" was going to the grocery store and buying something different and more expensive than usual.
Didn't intend to write a novel and life history but buying that coin was a big deal as it came at a time in my life that seemed to be at a turning point when things started turning around. It was only a year or so after that we could start a family and wife only work part time.
Very nice story BIGAL - thanks for sharing!
Sounds like that SLQ was very conservatively graded - as many of JJT's coins were back
in the 'raw' era.
I recall buying a 20D half in Fine for $35, that I sold about a year at the Michigan State show for $55 to a dealer who listed it in his newsletter as a VF at $155. The coin would easily slab VF30 today.
While I have not purchased a coin from their shop, I recall, as a young sailor in Boston, passing the shop... However, at the time, we had other priorities (booze and females).....Cheers, RickO
Well if it was back in the late 50's early 60's you were headed in one of two directions .Down Bromfield to Washington and take a left to get to Scollay Square, home of the steaming teapot , bars, pawn shops and tattoo parlors. If you went right on Wash you were headed to the "Combat Zone " located on the edge of Chinatown and home of more bars and stripclubs that one sailor could handle, Ladies of the night and a fight lurking on every corner.
Ahh the good old days ..

older purchase?
So he explained. Not a standard abbreviation.
I have bought many coins from JJT in last 15 years. Both Lois and Gail have been very helpful and informative and most of all trustworthy.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
