The lure of bust halves

Hi Folks,
Bust halves are a very popular series. They have everything a collector desires - lots of them, so you can pick your grade to collect in, many have survived to the present that have not been too messed with to enhance their beauty, they are big coins and and you have feel the heft in your hands, and they are wonderfully complex in terms of die marriages and within die differences. There is something in there for just about everyone and many here have a series commitment to collecting them. So while it is not my primary focus, when I find one I like, around once a year, I add a new date. Here ares my most recent BH acquisitions, post yours!

Have to say I agree they get more interesting with study.
BTW it's a PCGS XF40 that I got before they started beaning coins in slabs.
Very nice coins... nice additions to your collection.... Good quality and a green bean. Cheers, RickO
not my most recent, but I do have a pic of my 1807
From my small collection of Capped Bust Half Dollars. The 1807 O-111b "Bearded goddess" in P45 CAC, ex. Charlton Meyer. Like @spacehayduke, I pick up a CBH on occasion....

Picked this up for a couple bids UNDER my max at the Heritage Tuesday Auction, though I haven't received it yet. It's the grade range I seek. Low cost, yet strong detail.

My one type coin. It’s almost ridiculous to only have one..... sort of like owning a single Morgan to represent that series. I’m fearful more will someday come to give this one company.
They are common enough to be collected but rare enough to be special

Got this one yesterday.
Here's one of my favorites - PCGS AU58

Guess I've forgotten how to post images. I'll work on it.

I have..... one.
So many lovely halves! I should fine some more??
Wonderful coins. Great thread.

Only 12 die marriages left to go ... 2 are within financial reach ... 10 will require divine intervention!
Now I need to keep working on die states!

Just so many ways to collect this series.

By year, by grade, by varieties, by die states within the varieties and so on.
Just a great series.
Here are some of the terrible 3's. What a great endeavor. I've never had such fun with coins.
Lance.
Here's one I picked up at the 2016 Anaheim ANA. Ex-GoBust.

Beautiful bust halves everyone!
These coins offer so much to anyone looking for a series to collect, as the OP so nicely stated, though for me, I'm particularly drawn towards their beautiful design, vast differences in die characteristics, and especially their incredible ability to tone so beautifully!

Those are some very nice, high-end CBHs!
My preference (and my wallet's preference) is for mid-level graded pieces that have been out in the world doing their job for a while.
One of my favorites and it took a very long time to find. Thanks, Joy! (with Harry Laibstain Rare Coins).

Here is one I pulled out of circulation a few years back when I was out CRH. I like the look of it and for $ .50 what the heck I was happy to take it off the bank tellers hands.
My First 1826 ungraded perhaps XF picked up at Sarasota show

My philosophy is similar to Astrorat's; here's one of mine with a messed up 3:

Some beautiful coins in this thread. Thanks guys.
Got a couple of those O-106a funny 3's in real collector grades

This one I grabbed in an antique store in VT for 60 bucks
Remember when LS was saying they are too cheap and offered $400 for all the 58's you could deliver?

Great photos posted everybody...

This is my favorite CBH. Nothing special, just an affordable Curculated Cameo.
And the varieties go on and on

Wow that s am terrific line up of lovey bust halves! Like a string of Christmas lights. Thx
Lance beat me to the E/A. But man - how beat up were these dies?

My current "Box of 20"
Love bust halves. Some varieties are known for ear bars, and the various cracks and clashing helped draw my attention. I now have more than 100 Overton varieties with ear bars.
Ear bars! How can you not love this series?
I'm sure @lava has better examples but here's one.
Lance.
Here is my '14 E/A......
Just bought my first one this weekend, bought it for my type set but really liking the coin and may lead to a lower bank account in the near future because I now want more of them.
PCGS 55CAC
Did someone here say E/A...LOL...sorry, can't help but post this one again.
Definitely one of my favorites in my set!.....and it has those lovely ear bars to boot

even low grade ones are "not to be sneezed at" as my grandmother used to say.

My second favorite eagle pose aside from the small eagle. This is a series that has me "hooked" but not reeled in yet. It seems that most in Bust Half series are quite affordable, and available so I haven't devoted much time into collecting/study. They are beautiful classic coins, and I have no doubt that I'll be eventually be caught but I'm fighting for other series.
