Is it worth traveling from Boston, MA for the next Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo Show?

divecchiadivecchia Posts: 6,688 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was wondering if the November show is well attended by dealers and fellow collectors to make attending it worth while or should I wait for the spring or summer shows?

Let me know your thoughts (positive and negative).

Thanks,
Donato

It looks like I have my answer. I am going to do what I can to make it and see if my brother in law will come along.

Thanks to everyone for your input, as it definitely helped me make up my mind.

I don't know, I sure some here will provide advice.
With all going on in life I find it hard to travel 30 minutes to the Baystate show.

The Baltimore show is well worth the trip. I have made it a few times. Depending on what you are looking for this is a show that should have something for you.

If you can't go to January FUN and need a coin fix, Baltimore in November is a great choice! :)

Take the train from Backbay to Baltimore. Then you can plan your visit going south and enjoy your finds returning north.

Historically the Baltimore show has been excellent. Having said that the dealers' sections have been below average of late.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

RogerB, Thanks for the train suggestion, it's sounds like a nice option. I will look into it.

From the replies I've received so far it sounds like a good show.

Keep your thoughts and suggestions coming please.

Thanks to all who have replied so far, I appreciate your input.

@treasurehunt: I don't know as I did not do anything to indicate that the question has been answered. I'm looking for as much input as possible.

Edited to add: After each reply it looks like where it says "Question" it changes to "Answered". Then with each reply it asks me: "Did this answer the question? Yes · No". If I don't do anything it says "Answered" next to the thread. If I click "NO" to the question then it changes back to "Question" next to the thread.

    I hope that makes sense.

The one to question would be the summer show as it is not as well attended by the dealers. I believe I would give a slight edge to the November show over the March show.

I haven't been to a show where it wasn't worth it. It's where the real coin world is.

If I wasn't working that weekend I'd be hopping the train from SW Virginia...love it.

I did that exact trip for the summer show. Wasn't worth it for me. No quality seated dimes to buy.

Summer Baltimore is historically not nearly as nice as Spring/Winter.

Recalling past show reports, I believe this one is almost always highly praised....and a train trip certainly sounds interesting as a relaxing travel mode. Cheers, RickO

I did that when the Northeast Coinfest was in Stamford, Connecticut. I remember CAC just starting out and giving one free slab evaluation. I was a cynic then but am now coming around to the value of CAC. At the same show, which was in a school gymnasium, the fire department threw us all out until the fire exits were properly labeled. Memories of my last train ride...
