I only belatedly noticed the chunk missing from the eagles breast. Thoughts on whether it came that way or is damage. Also impact on grade and value.

Edited to say I found the one below for essentially the same price and I am much happier with the one immediately below.

Looks like glue residue (yelowish color). Acetone or Goo Gone should take it off. Don't rub it. ROLL the chemicals on.

    I suggest that as well.
However, sometimes this will not work if the contaminants are water-soluble. So if the gunk remains after the solvent treatment, try the same thing with tap water. I've seen cola stains on coins that won't come off with the strongest solvent, but they readily wash away with water.

That is a nice SLQ.... the ding on the Eagle breast is PMD...but minor... I would buy that coin at the right price. Cheers, RickO

My gut feeling is that is tape residue. It should come off, but the underlying surface may have toned differently or may have some of its adhered dirt removed.

Looks like a strike-through from here. Can you give us a closer view?

Strike throughs are very rarely yellowish.

Yellowish? I'm not sure we're looking at the same thing. The OP is asking about the Eagle's breast, not Liberty's breast.

thanks Shamika. I am fine with a crusty piece. Fits in well with the set. The concern is the EAGLES breast

OK, goldish on the wing. See it now?

I see the tape residue you mention. But the OP was asking about the divot on the Eagles breast. To me it appears to be a strike-through.

Looks like strike thru to me too.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

The mark on the breast "looks like" a strike through and it may be; however the gouges in the right field are damage so there is a good chance the breast is also damage. Only thing going "against" damage is the direction of the flaw - it does not match the damage in the field.
