I agree with, and would have guessed a 65..... that is a nicely struck coin... it is likely those spots are pvc and as such, should be conserved by PCGS.... hopefully before significant damage occurs. Cheers, RickO
So much for quess the grade. I thought they where generous with the grade

Tom - For a 34-D, it has surprisingly nice luster and a better than average strike. Furthermore, it had very clean surfaces assuming the coin didn't have the green spots when it first slabbed. No doubt it was a great coin when PCGS first looked at it.
Four pics just to show how well the OP's 34-D is struck. Notwithstanding the PVC, The coin is exceptional. The coins I posted are all PCGS65. Note that even at gem grade how poorly struck the braid and knot are.

65 in a rattler. I'm guessing green spots would make it a 64 today. Without the spots it is a great coin.

They were......looks AU to me and I would pass due to the green spots.
At some point in the past I'm sure it was an awesome coin. Easy 65. Not sure it would even grade with the spots now

The spots are noted, but this coin is such a superior strike for a 34-D that I think it will still 65.
Look at LIBERTY.......how well struck it is. VERY FEW coins from 34-D exhibit this.
Iron Tail's knot is sharp, on a year where the whole center of the obverse is usually weak.
Look past the greenie stick-em caps and see this coin for what it really is.
65 all the way. 66 if the green wasn't on the coin.

I'm wondering if it is active PVC that did not show at the time of grading and needs dealt with now. Possibly needs to be reviewed by PCGS.

The spots are green and this is a classic tale of pvc damage. would not grade now.

Do a solid and have pcgs remove the pvc
YEP-------------total agreement. Remove the PVC. It's worth it for a coin that nice.

I agree the 1934-d needs work.

That creates this problem.
Short set in 65 or better last coin i needed in 65
Dayum!!!! That's a nice short set. I now see your problem.
