Would you crack these and have PCGS grade them or just sell them the way they are?

    I'd send them to PCGS.

crack and really get them graded. The '84 is kinda nasty, though. may want to sell it as is.

    Crack the 1st, 3rd, and 4th. Keep the 2nd.

Don't bother with the '84. IMHO, the others should cross at the same grade.

I would send as cross at any grade so that at least you have them in some type of holder should they receive the no-grade determination at PCGS.

Those ACG slabs are getting rarer every day. Maybe one day they'll be worth more than the coin. ;)

I'd cross them at any grade. Cracking them out might be too risky.

TOM B hit the nail on the head. PCGS hates Indians unless the color is consistent with their pre-conceived notion of what it should be.

I think that the 1888 and to a lesser extent, the 1904 Proof Indian Cents are worth a shot at grading.

The 1884 cent is a no grade in my opinion and not worth sending in for a grade.

The 1906 is marginal if the obverse has not been cleaned and is okay. The value is really too low to get graded unless you have a grading service credit left from a membership and need to use it up. If the obverse has been cleaned it's not worth grading at all.

I think that the 1888 cent is okay. One could make a case that the others have been messed with, especially the 1884.

I like them all...even the 84...but that's me. I would crack and send raw to PCGS. Those holder would raise a red flag at PCGS.

JMHO. It would be a good test to me.

That's why you are the DIMEman!

Let's save the OP's money and answer your test question. PINK copper is BAD! Suround that with edence of a chemical being WIPED on a coin = 100% DETAILS GRADE."

    That's JMHO also.

They will not make it. This questionable color thing is getting out of hand. I cracked a Rattler only to get that designation at the last show. That coin looked fine. These look funky.

If I owned a coin in an old PCGS slab, I 'd send it in to be reviewed for an upgrade OR placed in the newest slab. It should be hard for any TPGS to "detail" or not cross a coin already in their slab due to liability. Additionally, color and toning standards change (er...I mean "evolve") so be careful when trying to "outfox-the-foxes" for an upgrade.

I would sell the 1884 as is and submit the others to PCGS under an economy submission.

I agree with you as well Bill. The 1888 is the only one with a chance.
Thanks to everyone for the opinions.

there is a sound reason why ACG and PCI deserve such little respect, these coins are part of that reason.

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

If you are planning to sell the coins, then crack and submit (just keep the '84)....If you intend to keep the coins, then save the money. Cheers, RickO

Soak 'em in cider. Then, melted chocolate. It can't hurt them.

  • davewesendavewesen Posts: 6,709 ✭✭✭✭✭

I could see at least 3 of those getting details grade if sent raw

probably better cash-wise selling as is

  • robkoolrobkool Posts: 5,934 ✭✭✭✭✭

I would just keep them the way they are... Unless the holders have cracks, or other issues.
    Good luck !!!

88 is a nice coin brown but nice

At least one is never going to grade

The 1884 was in a Red holder and look at it now !!
Could be a big problem, the others look OK.
Those coins in a PCGS holder would bring more $$$$ than in their current holders..
