I've had this dollar for quite awhile. It came in a collection that was sold to me by the daughter of the collector (she had passed years before). I asked her about it and she said: It came from Momma's purse.
Really, what kind of purse did she have? "It was one of the springy coin purses". So, I'm thinking a leather spring top coin purse.
What would cause those stripes and that circle?
What the heck do I do with it? Sell it, grade it, use it for target practice, ship to Ricko?
What would you do.

The stripe looks like a rubber band that later was taken off or disintegrated, the circle was another coin against it at a weird angle...just guessing here.
She could have meant those "clamshell" plastic coin purses, although those would not hold much extra besides a silver dollar. OTOH, that type of purse might give you a long slot-like opening that did not touch the center of the coin, while the rest of the coin touched the plastic.
The coin is common and might be nice if fully toned across the entire piece, but whatever you do with it, meh.
To me, the toning is in a kind of cool location on both the obverse and reverse. I'd keep it.
I don't know if it's MA or not. Would have to send to our host to see.
I suspect PCGS would be cautious on that one.
I'd keep it raw and enjoy it.
I would try to sell it raw.
I'd be surprised if it got straight graded.
Let the buyer worry about that.

I disagree w/o a better answer. When a rubber band is in contact with a coin, the surface under the rubber eventually turns black and becomes corroded. In his case, something protected the untoned portion. I don't see any residue but a liquid was involved and the "moon-shaped" flow can be seen on the rims.

So, her story was all wet, 'eh? I too have never seen a untoned strip or circle like on this dollar. I believed her when she said coin purse, but maybe it was a coin purse that got wet somehow?
oh well, I do not like it for whatever reason....

I don't think that PCGS would grade that, but it's a very common coin any way. Enjoy it raw.
