My first medal purchase. Wow is all I can say!

ironmanl63ironmanl63 Posts: 1,974 ✭✭✭✭✭

A while back someone posted a picture of a medal and I was taken back by the detail. It was like nothing I have seen before. I was browsing the CRO site and saw one that looked similar and decided to purchase it. I received it today and it is even more impressive in hand than the pictures showed. The relief and detail is astounding! Just thought I would share it with the forum.

Gorgeous medal and a very astute purchase. Congrats. But more importantly ... did you get a hat? ;)

There are a lot interesting and often scarce bargains in the area of tokens and medals. Usually the mintages for medals are much lower that those the "coin rarities." Yes, the survival rates for medals are higher, but the mintages are still much lower.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

That sure shows you what can be done with an artist and a round piece of metal!

Then there's the shield reverse Lincoln Cent.....Eeeesh..... :)

I forgot to ask for the hat.

I actually do not know anything about the mintage or survival of this medal. Any info on it would be helpful.

I really never even considered buying a medal until I saw one posted here.

Congrats on a beautiful medal @ironmanl63! What a way to start your collection!

I recently saw that medal offered by Atlas Numismatics. Anyone know if there's a connection with CRO?

Nice medal. I love the 3D effect on these Weiner medals, like you could walk right into them.

That is the most beautiful example I think I have seen. I just looked at the full size True View! OMG, sooooooo pretty. I have always enjoyed that design.

What he said ... I did not know our host certified these medals.

Beautiful medal! My interest in medals has slowly grown over the last few years. I think I need to buy a book before opening the wallet, however.
