Surprised I or others haven't noticed this before! All you have to do is turn the slab around backwards with the label pointing in!

The new PCGS slabs don't fit in NGC boxes at all unless you put them in caddy cornered. You end up with 19 instead of 20 coins to a box.

    What happened here?

Was the box drug along cement and wore the edge off?

Run over by a Crazed USPS Fork Lift Driver?

NGC boxes should REJECT PCGS slabs. !!!!

Something happened while USPS was delivering it, I think it might have been dragged by a truck along a road, but I'm not sure. Fortunately, none of the coins were damaged (the largest coin was a quarter, had it been a silver dollar it would have been damaged).

Are they paying the reholder fees? I've seen some messes up slabs, but those take the cake for sure, ouch.

PCGS told me that was the worst shipping damage they had seen.
And they reholdered the coins gratis, kudos to PCGS!

I just use a newer box, which works. I have also turned the coin around. If you look at them, it is pretty obvious why the newer slabs do not fix in the slot on the older boxes.

At the PCGS lunch a few years ago, this came up.

If you collect plastic, the boxes need to be vintage as well! No new boxes for me. :D

A couple of years ago, at a FUN show (or maybe it was the ANA) DW explained during a PCGS luncheon that PCGS's blue boxes were manufactured in lots of four and oddly enough the last slot in the last run was a little smaller...the first (or last slot) depending on orientation.

So not every blue box has this problem. But one in four will be a little too narrow for the new holders.
