In other words, is there a self fulfilling prophecy that is affecting the coin market?
No. If someone wants to be negative they will be negative.

Let me put it this way, Does what Don Lemon on CNN "report" on affect how you live your life?
I don't sell many coins so it doesn't scare me but a timely doomsday thread here and there has convinced me to slow down buying and later get the coin for less . I have passed on stuff and when no one rushed in to buy it the price came down
Bring on more doomsday threads the end is near.
You guys always find a way to make me laugh.
I have been buying more, but finding all my price researching to be a matter of "I like the coins"
and/or I pass because the pricing does not reflect the true market. I think this market is suffering from a real apathy for the last 9 years. How LOW will it go?
I buy what I like... Let the chips fall where they may. There are coins that I choose not to buy mainly because they either are just too common for the selling price or how they are valued by those that make the market what it is. I see a distinction between the dooms day neysayers and those that just avoid what is common and available verse seeking out what is not often offered for sale. While what I write may read and be interpreted as negative, there are opportunities and its all about finding them. And my view extends to the world as the world today is a much smaller place.
The collector mind set and attention span has changed and is easily influenced by passing fads. And part of the problem is that passing fads may not be identied for what they are until it is too late.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
No, I've long suspected I was a fool for chucking money into these things.
If it's something where current sale prices are easily found then I definitely use that as a guide.
Absolutely no change in buying
I'm hoping for many more years of doom and gloom so that I can buy more coins.
No, but the reality of it being harder now to sell coins has tempered my enthusiasm to acquire upgrades. It's more fun when it's easy to get rid of the dupes.
no change

I buy less these days, but not based on what people on these boards are saying. It just seems harder to get decent selling prices these days compared to a few years ago (with the possible exception of the ultra high end).
I'm buying nicer coins at lower prices to dollar cost average my collection while improving it at the same time. Sure I might sell a piece for less than I paid for it, but I'm also buying pieces for less than they were a year ago. In what I collect there are countless examples of this.
I am just building my collection and like the stock market it is better to buy when the market is down. Whether the market comes back in this coin market it really does not matter as much to me, because I consider it a hobby. My real investments are in real estate, stocks and my pension.
c.) No change in buying habits.
My buying coins, like buying baseball cards will never be affected by doomsday threads or negative posts about either market. When it is just a hobby and not an investment, it's pretty easy to maintain the same buying habits.
I imagine it's quite different when the purchase(s) being made are looked at as investments.

Absolutely. If sales are down so goes buying.
The fact Classic Commems have flatlined many being stagnant for sometime and the recent drop in common MS65 Dollars from $150 to $125 Bid recently a huge market cap loss would make anyone question buying numismatic coins period.
The posters in here don't really bother me as my opinions are my own which are based on verifiable market parameters and sales data. But yes if they are skeptical about the market can't blame them as quantitative data supports this.
I don't buy to flip or make money. If I like something I go for it

Looking at some key dates in a few series. Coins are for fun.
Real estate and Stocks for capital gains as of today. Tomorrow??? Coins will have their peak again. IMHO
100% Positive BST transactions
If you are a contrarian you love this stuff
Not yet, some things I'm interested in are still pricey, but I will get them if they fall enough.
I buy with discretionary income and hold long term so I don't worry too much about declining price levels.
No, if I see something I like, I purchase it.
I'm only enjoying it temporarily.
No change at all!!!! The only thing that affects me..........is lack of money!
Nope.
Not at all.
It makes me somewhat bullish when I see so many people leaning one way. Markets always tend to make as many people wrong as possible.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
No.

No change. The funny thing about this is that some time ago I was determined to try to do a box of 20. Complete failure. While I have sold quite a bit, there were 3 coins in particular that I sold that I wish I could get back. In the meantime I just bought another coin out of an auction on Sunday.
Joe.
You are going to have to come up with something better than Classic Commems (all but dead for 30 years) and generic Morgans dropping $25 to make me worried.

ignore them, and have fun

I'm having too much fun to worry about a few whiners. Since what I'm buying wont be back on the market until my estate auction, I don't think about it at all.

No. I'm driving to Denver for the A.N.A. and am looking for 3 specific coins. That'd be happening regardless.
No effect. For the most part, this 'down' market seems to be affecting those who sell coins....I have not seen it in my sector - which is selective coin collecting. Certainly I read about it here, and like farmers, there is always a problem....Cheers, RickO
