Now that Photobucket has gone super-greedy, where will/do you safely store your online coin photos?

Any trustworthy cloud storage sites you can personally recommend? I'm not very techie so decided to try pCloud. So far it's fairly easy to use, but can I be sure that my photos are "safe" there?
I never thought that growing old would happen so fast.

"Photobucket has gone super-greedy"? Offered free storage for more than a decade and to keep alive in the current electronic age they charge a nominal fee, you say they are super greedy?
wow
$399. Yes, super greedy.
Hmm wonder what businesses TNT and DAD started and have been successful for 10-20-30+ years, lol... my guess none...
Give me everything free or I will beetch, moan & complain...

Yes. To me it seems quite greedy for a company to arbitrarily change their fee almost overnight, with no warning, from Free to $400.00/yr. just to allow you to be able to post photos you have stored with them on other web site forums. Obviously you disagree, which is your privilege.
More importantly than discussing their motives, I am primarily interested in knowing where others who have been using a free PB and are not ready or able to spend an extra $400.00 a year are planning to store their photos now.

collectivecoin.com is fantastic! If you are doing this for non-coin related items then Google Drive and iCloud seem reasonable.
I took a brief look at them too, but it seemed to be mainly a "sharing" funny pix and comments type of site. Do they give you the ability to keep your coins and family photos private there, or are they automatically open to the public once you deposit them there?

I've used picturetrail.com for about 10 years. No complaints.

sear4ching, any ideas where to transfer them to?

Why are people not using a stand alone hard drive... there are 2 & 3 Terabyte drives available for a very reasonable price. Seems the best solution to me. Cheers, RickO
That's what I do as well as two smaller USB drives I put in the safe deposit box.
I'm also on Photobucket but I haven't noticed any changes or received any e-mails. I'm just a casual user though, not a business user, so I get 10GB free.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I'm trying pCloud for now. Slowly d/ling my coin and other PB photos to my PC first (which has been very hit and miss) and then upload them to pCloud. They give you 10 GB for free acct., lots of good reviews online about them, and so far it's fairly easy to use, even for a non geek like me.

Personal photo storage would be a nice addition to the CU forum.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
good luck, let me know how it goes.
Do you have to upload each picture individually?

It's great that we can upload our images to this and other coin forums. Like ricko, I'm a fan of backup drives. I even keep a third drive off site. I still want a host like PB but I'm finding less and less need for it.
Imgur, very efficient though they have been tweeking some of their aspects. I don't know how these hosting sites do so much stuff for free.
I'm waiting for the site that gets taken over by dark forces and issues an alert: "We're holding your stuff hostage until you pony up and send us $$$ to release access again!".
Dropbox...have been for the past 4 years.
I just use my photographic memory and hope for a you suck.

Imgur is better than Photo bucket with far fewer ads and is still free.

Depends on if you are talking purely storage or if you are using it to host photos to post onto forums/sales sites etc. The need for third party hosting has taken a nosedive considering so many forums (but not all) are allowing uploads directly now.
If you aren't using them to host links they may not care about your account as the rather steep fee increase ($400/year) is for ad free/third party hosting (and the email greeted me with a message about third party hosting).
You might want to make sure your file size/photo resolutions haven't been downgraded without you realizing it though. A forum friend (dogs) had relied on PB for her storage needs ...much to that person's chagrin later found out all her photos had been stored at 600x800 or something. Pretty much ruined the quality so when her hard drive unexpectedly failed there was no high resolution back up.
I'm sure a lot of people are as this is a great idea. But I would argue for backup it is prudent to do as you suggest (and rotate one of the hard drives offsite on a regular basis) PLUS have at least one cloud back up. iCloud is simple for the apple users, google drive too...but I would consider a second 'unaffiliated' one like Carbonite, Dropbox, or any of the others mentioned. Collective coin is a nice site for coins, both presenting the photos, organizing/storing them, and also using as a hosting site. It's not suitable for full scale back ups and with the recent purchase I suspect it will be monetized in the future (ads, fees, who knows).
I don't see a problem with a free site supporting itself with ads (well ads that don't redirect you off site, block your view, clog your screen etc) vs. a reasonable fee for a smooth, slick, professional interface. Photobucket's sudden jack up in prices it does seem rather steep in the context of a 'free' site that is so clogged with adware it is barely usable. Even those who pay for the basic 'ad free' version have reported continued ads.
$400/year (vs $40/year along the lines of other online services) out of the blue is a rather big shock. Perhaps okay for a business that needs a fast, reliable platform (which does not sound like photobucket), but for the casual user is kind of ridiculous. At $40/year I'd be doing research into the best overall site (ie photo storage, file storage, automated back ups). Hard to see how that $400/year can even pretend to provide a similar function.
In the end technically they aren't holding your PHOTOS hostage, just any viable links to them and at $400/year that does sound greedy from a site that should be supporting itself with all that adware.
This sucks for all those old, educational threads that predate the current software that allows direct uploads.
Store on the net for easy access for Russian hacking.
or
Store at home and off site with multiple hard drive back ups of the exact same info.
Don't think the Russians care much about my coin and dog photos. But security is a good point. Depending on what you have that you are worrying about. Maybe not the place to put a scan of your birth certificate and social security card...
Yup that works if you don't post them anywhere...3rd party posting is toast with that account
Why not use flash drive?
I take pics of coins or currency w my iphone then upload to eBay store. After that these deleted from phone.
Still working today...here is one;
...perhaps an oversight on PB part...

_**Maybe you are already considered "a Plus Account subscriber" and will be "grandfathered in" until Dec. 2018 then, according to PB's 7/6/2017 new policy statement:
....**3. What users are affected by the changes to our 3rd Party Hosting
policies?
Moving forward, new and legacy free account users will NOT have third party
hosting available.
If you were a Plus Account subscriber in good standing as of June 1, 2017,
you will continue to have all the privileges you have enjoyed including 3rd
Party Hosting until December 31, 2018 as long as you maintain your
subscription.
Non Plus 500 Account subscribers that purchased after June 1, 2017 will not
have access to 3rd Party Hosting.
Yes! All your photos are still available by logging into your Photobucket
Account. Photobucket has only restricted the ability to view your photos on
3rd party sites.

Hi Treashunt.
No, I've been uploading entire albums from my PC to my new pCloud acct. One drawback though is that they just list them all under "my pictures" and some of my photos show up there as IMG...with a number after it (but they do all have small thumbnails) so I may have to rename those particular files? I'm not very computer savvy though so I'm probably doing something wrong; not sure yet. I had listed descriptive titles for all of my coin pix at FB though, so those ARE listed on my pCloud by titles plus a thumbnail.

Thanks, FTB. I may check it out more thoroughly then when I have time.

Kind of funny scrolling through ebay and seeing who has their images hosted on PB. I think I've got a few linked in this forum, I'll have to update some old posts eventually.
Now I just use the automatic upload feature of this site, it's so convenient.

I pay $14.99 per year for: AD FREE 2GB Storage...which is far more than I need.
Sounds like a big job

Really?

from my PB album
Prior to Aug 2011 , just before migrating to USA, i was having trouble with PB as well as you.... I was limited
to space unless i paid a fee.... Now at that time ebay was not so greedy like they are of today but still
i was looking to cut overhead costs...On top of that, ebay did not make the stipulation that all pictures
had to have a minimum size of 500KB any one side . This was also prior the days that payment could be
made from anywhere and not just paypal....That is when i purchased a 500 Gig extended hard drive.
BTW , i am not computer savvy as well as you but i found an easier way than a cloud.
When i sold the business , the buyer did not want to buy my pictures so i took the hard drive with me....
Then my wife wanted one and i told her she could have mine and i will buy a 1 TB Hard drive ( twice as big )
or simply a 1000GB in the duty free store. I have been told about the clouds but the ext hard drive is so easy.
In all the years i have been doing this ( selling on line ) , i have only ever used 26GB of my 1000GB hard drive....
Personally i would not use the cloud because i do not believe anyone needs that amount of space.
In my opinion the cloud ( like photobucket ) is too messy and the external hardrive is easily found
on your PC... You can always pull out the usb port of the external hard drive if you are going away anywhere
and you will not lose any pictures. Plus there is no password to remember like in PB. Here is an example
from my hardrive which is Shirley Temple singing On the Good Ship Lollypop on colored vinyl ...I have
shown you this as it is not coin related and no other person in here would have use for it....
An idea maybe to watermark your pictures so if you save them elsewhere, no one else can steal and
use them to their benefit Place your username over part of the picture so if someone want to rub it
off and try and use it, they take part of the picture with it... ot was done to me once through ebay and
as Ian Hunter ( that sings Cleveland Rocks on the Drew Carey show would say ) " once bitten, twice shy.

I have my own photography website so I just use my website to host them.
Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
You are just encouraging P-Bucket paying $2.99. I'm still free on my PBucket account. Click off this, click off that ad, shutdown that huge ad, ad nauseum. I'd rather click than pay. F'em.
I did find that it still works but using the html link instead of IMG..but has some quirks...and the last time I did this I got an email from PB saying my 3rd party posting would be coming to an end if I didn't cough up the $399
Edit: as predicted here it is again:
PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING*
PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN.>
The whole effect of the PB notice on me was to delete my images and nuke the account. I can go back to inexpensive webhosting for images that is cheaper. Or just not post images online anymore.
