Take a photo of the coin in the slab with the green sticker. --> Send the coin in for regrade or do a crackout. Either way, the coin has a new cert #. --> Resubmit the coin to CAC.
The coin could come back without any sticker at all, in which case the photo of the coin wearing a little green sticker might get them to put the sticker back on it.
Gold stickers are rare to start with. Randomly trying with green-sticker coins would probably have a 1% success rate. With carefully selected coins that are phenomenal you might do a little better. Either way it's expensive to try.
To just re-submit it, the chance of them changing it from green to gold would be virtually zero. It's not like at the TPGs where you have different people in the grading room on different days.
Yes. I have simply submitted the coin again in its original TPG holder and with its CAC sticker still on it and included a note on the paperwork for CAC stating that in my opinion the coin might deserve a gold CAC sticker and that I would appreciate it if they would evaluate the coin again. Please note that it is pretty darn rare for me to do this, but I have had some success.
I have had numerous coins with a green upgrade and still get the green. In my mind, they should have been gold to start with. That said, that is why they are so hard to get.
I've wondered about this myself. I have one coin that I included on a separate invoice with my last submission, that I thought was very deserving of a gold on it's first go around. It had received a green sticker the first time around. It is on it's way back the second time still with the green sticker and now with feedback as to why it only got a green and not gold. It's an 1882-CC Morgan graded MS-63 in a gen 2.1 holder. Everyone I've shown it to says it's a 65 by today's standards and that includes a former PCGS grader who also was a grading instructor at the ANA Summer Seminar. I'm really looking forward to getting the feedback on it.
CAC is very strict and in my opinion have not lowered their standards from 10 years ago. I have a couple of green beans that I felt were deserving of a gold sticker. I have never heard of resubmitting though.

When I asked CAC about resubmitting here is what they said:
Dear Jon,
Thank you for your email. You may re-submit and ask to review for gold. Just be sure to note this on the submission form.

What would be the point except to bleed money to the sticker game?
My offer / bid is based on the grade on the holder and somewhere between blue and grey.
Because many national dealers will often pay up to the next grade for coins that have gold stickers. That would be a good reason for one.

The formula would be this:
Take a photo of the coin in the slab with the green sticker. --> Send the coin in for regrade or do a crackout. Either way, the coin has a new cert #. --> Resubmit the coin to CAC.
The coin could come back without any sticker at all, in which case the photo of the coin wearing a little green sticker might get them to put the sticker back on it.

I would say only a truly experienced and qualified numismatist (such as TomB) should even bother trying. Cheers, RickO
It's happened to me a couple times. It's very tough and rare.

gold cac is very hard to get.
I had an Early $5 that didn't gold in an MS61 OGH. Regraded to a 62 and got green again.
If we were playing horseshoes, this would be a leaner.

I have quite a few to fit that category right now

CAC is very reasonable, but also very real good at what they do. Best to leave this approach to the very seasoned.
