NOW what? Will coins that "make it" for grade but not the arbitrary ABC stuff get stuffed into a lower grade or what?

Their model says no. What say you?

    We need someone to stand up for those who really don't know their A,B,C s , or 1,2,3 s. It's an added benefit to the added value part of the equation. Not everyone can separate wheat from the chaff.

    I think you will find that CAC graders/JA's market dealings over the past 35 yrs would suggest otherwise. You forget JA forged his grading chops in the raw days of 1977-1987. And even up to 1990, the vast majority of coins going to auction were still raw. If you couldn't grade and handle raw coins, you had a tough time pre-1990. I don't think JA would have been a founder of PCGS, an original grader, founder of NGC, and an NGC finalizer for many years (ie grading RAW coins) if they didn't have world class skills. Some of the CAC graders teach the grading courses given by the ANA. Just my 2c.

    In summation, CAC can both accurately grade from scratch with the best of them....and criticize other graders. I do have 2 criticisms of CAC though: they grade too good. And they should have shown up in 1997-1998....not 2007-2008 once the horses had already left the barn. Even I knew in 1997/1998 that a major grading shift was underway.

    He did just fine when he founded PCGS and NGC and was an early grader at those services.

    I agree with the "will never happen."
    Quite a few have voted.

    If A. is correct, then it's pure balderdash that CAC "agrees with the grade" and only scrutinizes degrees of THAT grade.

    If B. is correct, then it suggests that the CAC service only exists to denigrate present grading.

    NEITHER of which are what they SAY they do.
    Or at least that's been my understanding.

    We need more places to solicit opinions for pay.

    Certainly CAC sees coins that it would grade as 63 but are sitting in 64 holders. While they call out 65's in 64 holders with a gold bean, they have clearly decided not to call out 'numispoo' with a brown sticker. All they want to know is whether or not they would buy the coin. How far away from them buying it is immaterial.

    Wouldn't they get sued immediately? Then can you imagine a business who provided a service equal to their competitors while at the same time provided a service critiquing those competitors? That's lawsuit material.

    That might be the problem. In lofty grades "we" pay tons more sometimes but "we" can't tell the difference...then don't pay the extra!!

    The premise is unclear - at least to me..... Would they be slabbing only raw coins? Or, would they crack and slab? In the first instance, well, that could be an evolution, albeit unlikely. No need to mess with a successful business model. In the second instance, well, that would leave the door open for ANOTHER grade affirmation service. Cheers, RickO

    Rob, omnidirectional means exactly what you said, from all directions. I believe that was what the Colonel was meaning, that kudzu grows in all directions.
