Hello All!

I am sort of a YN (33) collecting US classic gold coins.

I have put together a poor man's Indian quarter eagle set. Learnt a lot!
My theme was to find the coins as inexpensive as possible in low mint states (except 1911D and 1913 in AU58).
Reason - I am saving up for my elaborated US Gold Type Set where I have holes in pre-1830 gold coins. My quality is better in this type set.

My other hobby is photography. I have imaged few coins from this set to bring out its beauty as well. I am happy to professionally photography your coins at no charge as a service to the community and learning.I have a registered and insured business.

My opinions / reflections:
1. The 1911-D AU58 was a little expensive, but about a year after I bought it, the prices have gone up by a good chunk.
2. NGC's grading standard is somewhat lower than PCGS - I am sticking to PCGS henceforth.
3. Indian incuse design is hard to grade.
4. PCGS holders are way easier to photograph (coins) compared to NGC's pronged holders.
5. PCGS holder plastic is way better quality than NGC's.

Very nice! My favorite coins to collect :) I have been going for a toned set of them, but since that is so rare to find, I am willing for them to be any grade, lol. Most of mine are high AU to low MS as well:

I have a "poorer man's" that is populated with mostly AU coins. I put this together in the late 1980s.

Part of me wants to fill out one of these, just to be able to hold them and look at them together. That's why I made my digital version of it, lol.

I love all the sets presented in this thread. Congrats to the OP for putting this great set together as a YN. You will be glad you did in 20 years.

Nice pics. You shouldn't refer to your images as low quality. Low/Web Resolution would be much more accurate. I think there is a big difference in the word choice.

When I finish my Liberty $2.50 set I'll take on the Indians. ;)

That will be nothing compared to the Liberty set! I don't even think I could even try that one, lol. I've started an error Indian set too, but that one is going to take awhile.

That's not a poor man's set. That is beautiful. Nice matching set with both grades and appearance.

The above sets are nice. I am still working on my poor man's set.

One of the great gold coin designs... my preference is the half eagle.. I do not have a set, however, I do have one - a 1909D - that I have had for many, many years... I keep that coin out in easy reach for my viewing pleasure. ;) Cheers, RickO

You have a really nice set there! Good for you to put these all together. A labor of love, right? I'm impressed ! Way to go!!

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I like the presentation. My preference is for a bigger slab insert image or none at all, they are so small they seem out of proportion and dwarfed by the gorgeous big gold indians. But again, that is only my bias, there will be many different opinions on presentation. Key is that the images are superb. You got the facial images with no bright spots and no dark spots, with perfect contrast, that is hard to do. Well done.

    Best, HT
