Will it CAC?

I'm not a Buffalo Nickel guy, but like nice Buffs. Pretty color, but mushy for a 38-D.
That's a pretty lofty grade. Looks like it has outstanding color, tho.
Gorgeous color and appears to have great luster. There is a little bit of detail missing in the central obverse area (Indian's hair), but it's certainly a solid 67. I'd say CAC would approve.
I disagree do to the weak strike on the reverse for this date and MM.
Looks more like a 65+.A gift?
The only thing I can say for sure is I do believe the images are holding most folks back from seeing the glory of this piece. Better imaging would help as I honestly can not judge this Buff.
I would say no. 38-D's come exceptionally nice. More than 50,000 exist in holders at gem level and better. From these photos this one is just OK.
It's in a newer holder. If it's in a dealer's inventory or an auction it has almost certainly been tried for a sticker.
Nice toning..........that will carry it. Full top feather and almost full reverse. The coin was the result of a clash, and this is evident by the weak IN GOD WE TRUST, and also by the ragged neck on Iron Tail, which shows that the clash was a deep one.
The clash does not affect the grade.
Clean fields..........slightly weak head on Black Diamond.
None of that matters to me though....it's a solid 67.

I'm glad that I am not the only one seeing it as a weak strike. Like someone else said....this date and mm comes very nice and well struck. The only thing going for this very common Buff is the beautiful toning. JMHO.
Well, at least I bought it right,,,,,,
I knew it didn't have the best strike,,,,,, I didn't know what cause the markings on the neck,,,,, I put a low bid on it due to the overall eye appeal and won it cheap,,,,, I am happy with the coin.
That's all that counts in the end.
All my other Buffalo's are CAC
I think it's a MS66. Beautiful coin!
Too soft a strike for a CAC sticker?
waiting for the day for grading to loosen, and for coins like this to get a bump for color.
It appears to me that this piece already got a liberal bump for color...
As a major dealer once told me,,,,,,, it is in a holder with the grade,,,,,,,, doesn't really matter,,,,,,
I am sure the color was what gave it the grade,,,,,, but again it doesn't really matter,,,,,
The original question was will it CAC....not how it graded what it did. While I like it.... I don't think it will CAC. A potential huge premium for that + as it bridges the 67 to 68 "expanse." I'm not a Buffalo nickel guy so my opinion is sort of irrelevant.
Kinda wild that there's a 60X price jump from 67 to 68....and 1,000-2,000 MS67's all waiting to be the next 67+ or 68.
Unfortunately I just got an order back from CAC and I won't send 1 coin by itself as it is too costly so it will be a few months before I have enough coins to send another batch to CAC. I realize if it would pass it would be do to the color and overall eye appeal,,,,, not the strike.
the question is if pcgs would grade that a 67+ now........Ive seen some lusterbomb 66's that looked better and sharper than that one!
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
Define now,,,,,,,, it is in a new holder,,,,,,,,, doesn't matter,,,,,,,,
That is a nice Buff, however, I think the dings in the hair and on the nose will keep it from a CAC sticker... Cheers, RickO

Given the big price spread, and that gaining a CAC sticker will legitimize the grade (i.e. value), it's worth a shot. I'm not smart enough to give an educated opinion if it will pass or not though.
It would depend upon what you paid for this coin. Its nice but I do not really believe in the plus scam. It is either an ms67 or an ms68.period. still a nice buffalo. And just think with ngc you can have ms67m ms67+, and ms67* for even more fun.
I see these ms67+ coins going for over a grand and the nice ms67’s rolling around at two hundred.

In checking completed auction sales on PCGS Auction Prices you will see (4) recent completed sales for PCGS MS67+ 1938-D Buffalo Nickels.
On my coin I paid less than all but (1) coin (only $37 more) and about 1/3 of PCGS Price Guide.
If you look at the other coins there is very little difference in quality so I think my coin is fairly graded. They all have the chatter on the neck. My coin is deeper and richer in color than the other MS67+ coins and is comparable in color to a MS68 that sold for $12,925 that was the subject of much discussion on these boards when it was sold late last year. Actually the last (3) MS68's that sold went for $9400,,,,, $12,925 & $11,750 and not (1) of these (3) coins had a sticker. In judging the (3) coins I believe that my coin is superior to (2) of the (3) MS68 recent sales.
Check them out and judge for yourself,,,,,,,,,,,
I would post photos of the other coins here but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

(2) MS67+ with a CAC sticker sold at different auctions for about 2 1/2 times my cost,,,,,, so a sticker would be a big boost.
I would say (1) MS67+ CAC has as good or better color than my coin (cost 2 1/2 times my cost) ,,,,,,, the other definitely not and has spots but a sticker and (cost 2 1/2 times my cost) ....

I did not count an MS67+ sale that was a variety FS-513 overmint mark.
So my MS67+ cost me less than 6% of an MS68 so that seems like a pretty good deal to me.
I will never have the means (or the desire) to pay the price for a MS68 coin so this will have to do.
Again,,,,, I fully suspect that the deep rich color on this coin boosted the grade.
(ironic as I usually don't pay up for color)

After all the stratospheric mathematics above I still would not pay more than ms67 money for the coin.
it lacks pizazz. Its nice but just ms67 nice. The + part of the grade is all about the color if you like color that looks
as if it was imparted by the bright flame of a bunson burner.

I think the only thing that would carry it to CAC is the color IMO.
Nice nonetheless
I would say no. This is a date that can be found with brilliant surfaces.
Nothing about this picture makes me say WOW!
The services seem more forgiving on strike these days than luster and now color. To sticker, it only needs to be a solid 67 (CAC ignores the plus). I think it will sticker.
I also think these are Heritage photos and that the coin will be more vibrant in hand.
