While clearing out a file cabinet, I found a copy of the PCGS Coin Grading book. 2nd edition. Is this still a useful book.? Does anyone need one?

The first edition of the book was absolutely awesome, but I believe it was changed somewhat in later editions.

I've got two copies and I believe it still relevant. I often pick it up for study and end up getting lost in it.

I prefer the ANA Grading Guide. Every grade has pictures.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I would be very interested in reading it. If it's still up for grabs, I would love to have it

IMO, The only ANA Grading Guide worth owning is the latest edition. Photos match the grades better. A few years ago, one grading instructor told his class that many images in the older editions had become 1/2grade "off" due to gradeflation. Back then, Grading Coins By Photographs was a better book. Now they are on par.

Next. Apples and oranges! The PCGS book covers so much more than the ANA Guide. I have all three grading guides I mentioned above. With these books, some study, and the PCGS online guides with images, most shold be able to get in the "ballpark."

Found at Library , The PCGS 2nd edition has lots of useful information and topics not covered in other books like toning and various designations FBL,FB RB etc. It is the only book that describes MS coins that the other books just give generic description of them. The only negative except for color inserts the B@W are worthless hard to tell difference on some and not all coins pictured. Also did not use glossy paper.

Counterfeit section such as how Buffalo nickels how mintmark inseted by the rim of coin and other information very informative.

Wish PCGS would publish an updated version since 2 ed is 2005.
