Post your 1793s
Can't believe I've had these two old war-horses for over 20 years.
Have a fun and safe 4th!

I wish I had one to post
Bad cell phone pics of bad looking coins....actually the slabbed Lettered Edge example is decent for the grade. The obverse of the Vine&Bars is a near total disaster, but it does have a readable date.
Maybe with the market in freefall I'll be able to upgrade these soon for reasonable prices - but I'm not counting on it. This segment of the market (early copper) seems to be holding up fairly well.
Only one I own. 1793 Large cent,S-12, AG3, electrotype.
Happy 4th everyone!
Deleted.
Did the state coppers, CT, MA and VT, etc. have any influence on the design for the "United states" coinage?
In some ways. The Massachusetts copper coins had the words "half cent" and "cent" on them. They also featured an eagle that was similar to the Heraldic Eagle that appeared on Robert Scot's silver and gold coins. The federal coinage eagle came from the Great Seal of the United States, but the design elements were very similar.
The reverse of the Vermont coppers called for a plea for unity among the states as well as a call to make Vermont the 14th state or "star." It also had the all-seeing eye in the center which was also part of the Great Seal of the United States design.
This was the set I used to have, and sold off some years ago...
All beautiful in their own way. Really nice and enjoyable thread.
1793 Half Cent - The face of Ms. Liberty is the same as one that appears on the 1792 disme pattern coin.
1793 Chain Cent with Periods, S-4.
1793 Wreath Cent, purchased many years ago from Catherine Bullowa.
1793 wreath cent , vine & bars edge, S-9, B-12, VF-20
1793 Half Cent, C-3, B-3, AU-50
Sold these a while back, I'm sorry to say !

It's so hard to find coins that look like this. Very impressive.
Thank you! BUT these coins are probably more like a little better than average. They were what I could afford to buy in the 1980s when I was building my type set. They all have hard brown surfaces, which was and is a big deal for me with copper. BUT they also have rim dings and scratches. It comes with the territory with these coins unless you could pay several thousand dollars per coin back in the 1980s. I bought these in the $2,000 to $3,500 range back then. And, of course everything was raw.
The 1793 half cent came from an old New England coin buddy, Bob Elder. The 1793 Chain came from the Worthy Coin Bid Wall which was once a fixture in Boston. And I bought the 1793 Wreath from Catherine Bullowa.
You did well buying them when you did, Bill.
I made the mistake of focusing on the middle dates when I got into copper in the early 90's.
These coins are relatively plentiful (at least at the large shows and auctions) and prices have had minimal appreciation over the years.
Beautiful old copper... I do not have a 1793 coin... a glaring vacancy....Living in this area (northeast), I have been hoping to find one, perhaps in one of the old buildings (some as old as the late 1600's, and many from the 1700's). I keep looking, no luck so far. Cheers, RickO
