Would like to learn more about gold

Please help me learn by looking at these two images. Same series, same grade.
Example 1:
this example shows what I think of as 'mint frost' in the fields of the Liberty head piece and around the beads. There is luster in the main fields close to the devices, but in the center there are areas that at more flat in appearance. I wondered if it could be putty, but it looks like it happened naturally (ie not applied with a brush).
Example 2:
This example shows more of the 'mint frost' in all areas. In the main fields where the other examples looks flatter, this example still shows the same change, but the area is lusterous.
I don't see any marks in the fields of the first example that someone tried to cover up. So what can you tell me about these examples and what causes/caused the difference. Both coins have nice cartwheel luster overall. Thanks for any knowledge that you can share and happy 4th!

If you would show the whole coin it might help. I do believe what you might be seeing is toning that seems to have settled in Miss Liberty's hair. Now, from your images I gotta say it's tough to judge but I think I'm right from what I can see.
Sadly, mis-exposed to the point where color distortion make the images unusable.
@crazyhounddog Here are a couple more images. Are you able to see the differences in the fields from these?

If you are worried about putty, dip it... will not hurt the coin.... Try an acetone wash first... Cheers, RickO
You could also show us pictures of the entire coin. As for the photos, the first set had colors that made them unuseable, and the second set are over exposed. Step back and take photos of whole coin.
Kind of looks like putty. Certainly there are marks in this area that would have been tempting to conceal. As others have said, a better photo would help.
OK, this is the best I can produce. First two images are straight on, second set are at a slight angle. My opinion is that the fields have been puttied, most heavily between the throat and first star, but then lightly across the fields. Under the bust and around the date appears to be original surface. Any agreement or other thoughts? Thanks.

Putty comes off easily in acetone.....pure acetone soak will not harm the coin.

I agree but it is graded 65 and a soak will likely make it a 64 and I just bought it so I can return.
Did you try a black light? Sometimes that will expose putty... if you are worried, just return it. I will say, from your pictures, I do not see putty. Very hard to see on pictures. You said it is graded... it is in a slab??
Cheers, RickO
yep, old NGC fatty
You need to send it back IMO. Part of cost of transaction was the holder.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I think so too. It is not hard to find one of these CAC, I did like the old NGC holder though.
To my eye, the PCGS coin looks worse than the NGC coin. I see rub on the high points of the PCGS coin where I don't on the NGC coin. However the haze in the field of the NGC coin is not good for the grade either.
Old tombstone NGC holders are cool. You just don't want it to literally be a coffin for your coin. You will never be at ease with it now or when go go to sell it. The issue will always be there. You will have many opportunities to buy better in the days to come
