Picked this up a couple days ago. It was probably made for dimes, but since I don't have any dimes, I'll fill it up with gold! Thought it was a neat novelty.

That is really cool!

Nice coin holder . Ouch! Putting gold in there, even if AU's will likely damage them..
Being a Tiffany item, complete with monogram, its original purpose may well have been to hold quarter eagles and not dimes. I've never seen one of those before!
Cool!

Very cool piece...love the gold angle too!

It's a Tiffany holder made for a girl to store her dime-sized "love tokens" given to her by suitors.

I thought about that, so was really careful putting them in and getting them out. I only used my cleaned/lower grade coins, too, just to be safe
Well @jwitten is now officially part of the 1%
I love it

Very nice... and loaded with gold... awesome... Cheers, RickO
Actually, when Tiffany made it, it was to allow proper ladies to pay their horse/street car fairs without having to grub around in their purse or take off their gloves. You just pushed a coin into the (questionably clean) hand of the conductor.

Very cool.
Nice!
I was thinking the same thing. The problem is, fares were only a nickel at the likely time this was made.
Edited to add: For example, NYC subway fares were $0.05 from opening in 1904 till 1948!
WOW, I like it!
Very cool....and nice photo.

Tiffany ladies did not ride the subway...
The yellow cab fare was 15c plus 5c per quarter mile.

BHNC #203
This piece was made between 1956-1965 so could very well be made to pay fare. I have been collecting Tiffany for years. Cant beat the quality
Looks like subway token size
