Photobucket disaster........

Have several threads with images hosted on Photobucket.
They've changed their terms of service, now requiring an expensive upgrade for the ability to post pictures here.
Most of the pics from my threads are now gone. Will require several hours to fix, hosting pics here.
Visited Photobucket today and the site is still slow - I can't imagine they will be around for much longer!

TERRIBLE! You have some great pics on these threads!
Good thing I've been using Collective Coin to upload my images for the past year or so. Goodbye, Photobucket.
You know our hosts have their own image server, yes?
You don't have to put your images on a third party server. You can just drag the image onto a post, and the forum software will upload it to their server...
Yep, sucks!! I went to post a few images here last week only to see them deleted as I posted them.
Thank goodness I have them also on tiny pic.com

what exactly is the issue with PB>
having read the above I decidd to test it and , lets see if it works as before and without having to pay:
there should be 2 images of a toned Canadian coin coming .
it used to work fine when using the IMG link from PB. done it many times.
[IMG]http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/cdncoins/1858 10 Cent toned/18582rev.jpg[/IMG]
[IMG]http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/cdncoins/1858 10 Cent toned/18582obv.jpg[/IMG]
if it works without the pay and upgrade signs, it is ok ,'
if not, i too will remove all images, over 500, from PB.
Maybe I made a mistake and shall check back.
tried again, lets see now:
[IMG]http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/cdncoins/1858 10 Cent toned/18582rev.jpg[/IMG]
lets try without the IMG

obviously they have made some changes so the images will not display, just the links....will try again

obviously NO GO, subject to me having goofed at the upload.
based on the above experiment , I will download all my images sitting om PB just to be sure they are not lost in to PB land.
Yep - in the process of uploading all the images to the PCGS site, as noted on the OP.
New fee structure.......
Photobucket has been a very aggravating site for years. They would get their software running smoothly, and then they would add enhancements and it would become almost impossible to use it. It seemed like they didn’t test the changes before they put them up on the site. Adding new pictures has become a hassle.
The site has always been filled with annoying pop-ups. It makes me wonder what the advertisers are thinking. Do you think that annoying a potential customer is going to make them more likely to buy from you? My answer is, “NO!” but maybe other people are different.
I am so glad that our hosts are providing us with picture services so that I can avoid Photobucket.
I downloaded all the pics from PB a while back. They have too many adds bouncing that it really just takes too long to do anything there. Most of the forums have upgraded software now that you really don't need a third party host for pics. Its a lot nicer just to be able to drap and drop or click and upload.

Don't use the [IMG] code. Use photobucket's "direct" http link and the "attach image" icon on the far right (seen when composing your post).
Here are your photos...

IMGUR.COM Free, easy and millions of people use it to store their pictures.
Photobucket was like that once. There's just no way to know if a site will pull the rug out from under you.
I have seen much consternation on other sites about the photobucket policy change.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
Bye-bye Bucket. Just deleted all links to it.
Keep all your pics in a folder on your hard drive. Upload to forum directly from there.

I wonder if this will affect the copy/paste of the html code to eBay descriptions. If that goes away, gonna be a lot of pissed off eBay sellers.

Just have give that up I guess. Not worth their hassel anymore.
Be a lotta crap to have to download. Most of the stuff one should have maintained a copy on their computer anyway.

I wouldn't expect PB to be the only formerly "free" site to begin looking for subscriber fees. At some point in time, this could affect all of them.
I haven't used PB here since the site conversion which now allows you to upload images right from your computer or device.
Imgur is a much better site than PB. No ads or pop ups and still free (for now).

Bummer! I have several old posts with photos that are now useless.
Perhaps at some future point I might go in and repair these but at this point in time, I've got much more pressing issues.
Sorry

For those of you that are new, that's a relatively new feature....
Yep, salvaged what I could and closed account.

Uploading only works for a specific site. Hosting is nice so you can put a picture up on multiple sites. I've been using collective coin for those things I don't upload directly here.
This really rotten part is the lack of notice which backs some users into a corner, I mean $300??!!! I'm sure there are a few people who are using those links for things like a small business or something. Borderline extortion at that price. Not only that, I had to close down about 6 ads so I could just read the new freaking terms of service! Ridiculous!
Sad as I have a few old threads with pictures (like a photo essay trip to the Osaka mint). At least my better photos corresponded with starting to use collective coin because of the way photobucket degrades quality, but still. Ugh.
Photobucket has been a hopeless mess for over a year. I'm using Imgur at present, and I'll move to something else when they start pulling the same garbage.
This really is the only way to post your coin images on the forum.
Third party hosting sites are now irrelevant.
I'm not sure what everyone means?
I just posted 2 images here in the "July 4th giveaway" thread using the "HTML" link provided at my FREE PB account and those 2 pix are still there at PB!
- Jim
Why bother with PB? It's irrelevant. Why bother with links at all?
Well the IMG versions are supposedly affected, and that affects the last 6 years or so of posts. I haven't gone back to look yet to confirm.
Plus linking for free even with HTML I suspect will be blocked...as it will cost them money.
No matter what their ads are so bad and the photo resolution so degraded I see no point.
Upload direct or use another host IMO.
Apparently my PB acct. still works because I've only used .4 GB out of my (free) 2.1 GB allowance?

Seems that all of the hosting sites are a moot point since the forum now allows for uploads from your hard drive. Another automotive forum I frequent allows for the same thing. I have moved all photos that I wanted to keep from PB and Imgur to my hard drive.
I started using imgur. It's free, at least for the time being, and pretty easy to use. But now that the sites I use host their own images, I dot even use that.

Why in the world would anybody use PB or any other 3rd party site now that we have the new software that takes the pics straight from our c drive??!!
This may be the demise of photobucket.

I entirely agree with regard to this forum (and others that allow it without degrading the resolution too much).
BUT not everywhere I put pictures allows direct upload. Plus, it's nice to have access to photos if I don't happen to be on my main computer. Also, it's nice to organize the occasional album to be able to link to.
Why in the world would anybody use PB or any other 3rd party site now that we have the new software that takes the pics straight from our c drive??!!
Some "educational" threads have taken years to build - the CLCT hosting of images is relatively recent.
Well... I guess for those of us (me) photo deprived individuals, this is a dodged bullet... So now they charge for hosting pictures? Why don't people just have a spare hard drive? Cheers, RickO
A hard drive is great for backing up (I like having a cloud backup and a hard drive back up), but for online hosting (for when/if I need it), then a hard drive won't work. I'd like to do it from my website but I have an inexpensive version of a website-for-dummies type set up and large scale hosting is not part of the deal (and unless things change drastically again, I won't be making that type of switch).
You can download and save ALL your P- Bucket images.
Click 'library' scroll down to 'download', on lower right, it will save it as a 'ZIP' file.
Took awhile, bucket is being abandoned faster than the Titanic!
Didn't work for me. I have no scroll down under the "library" tab. I contemplated deleting some pictures until I got under the 2GB max, but, it would only allow me to delete 1 picture at a time and that would take days. I'm using shutterfly to host now. I expect they too will attempt a sabotage in the future, just like adbucket.
PS: The DAA now allows users to "opt-out" of receiving those annoying ads. The have a free beta that removes most ads:

Try 'loading more pictures' I think that's the option.
