After an acetone bath, will this 1831 quarter grade AU?

XF details, reverse looks cleaned.
Cleaned, both sides.
Why the acetone bath?
Yes, it might be the angle of the photo, but the surfaces above the eagle’s head look too bright as if they have been polished. If that’s the way it looks, it’s probably a no grade.
Yes.
Details all the way.
You guys are tough. Straight grade AU. While the coin is not original, I see no signs of "market-unacceptable cleaning" in the image. The surfaces have been altered with a hazy residue. Do not do anything to the coin as it will look worse. If hairlined due to improper cleaning, acetone will expose it when the "cloudy film" is removed.
Do you read anything or just type? 2 of us said it will grade, three did not.

"market-unacceptable cleaning" is a new one to me.
"And so it goes", as Kurt Vonnegut used to write.
Yes I read. First two posts, ADDRESSED TO THE FIRST TWO POSTERS and written (without any knowledge of further posts) before you disparaged me. In my opinion, AT A TIME when there were ONLY the two other posts, those two posters were "tough."
"Cleaned, both sides."
Shall you become one of my minions? It will be nice to have a true discussion such as ours here.
No. It's not an AU coin based on the photos.
I think EF details also with there possibly being a reason for the toning on this one. IMO, cleaned with "smoothing", esp on rev. as pointed out and toned subsequently.
Well, just Love coins, period.
My wag is it should go XF45. I don't see issues that would no-grade it but an AU straight grade would be a gift.
No, because of the reverse cleaning.
The images make me think EF details.
Strong AU50 and with less wear would probably grade MS61.
The top of the reverse (particularly) gives us pause. I'd guess another set of photos might yield different opinions.
Lance.
abcde12345 makes a great point! In fact, IF that coin had a perfect strike, full unbroken frosty original luster, and absolutely no trace of wear, and no contact marks at all, it mught grade 69 or even 70! Right?

Actually, 4 said no grade, and only you said it would grade. Might want to read a little closer before you accuse others of not reading.
not AU
BHNC #203
XF45....maybe AU50 in hand... Same reservations as noted above... Cheers, RickO
the grade would be the same before and after an acetone bath.
I'm not seeing what an acetone bath would remove. Is it those black dots across the obverse?
........... polished / cleaned reverse.. like posters above stated....
The benefit of acetone is that it removes crud and gunk that mask the qualities of the metal beneath.
The unintended consequence can be that problems beneath the gunk become more apparent as well as the coin's virtues.
My take on the refractive qualities of the surfaces: Not yet FUBAR. :'( :'(
Don't
Based on the cleaning and degraded surfaces beneath the haze, the only way to make the coin less market-unacceptable
is the window-sill.
Having paid attention in 7th-grade Wood Shop, I've test-driven multiple shellacs. and ways of slowing them down. Fewer drafts. Less temperature variation.
The side up will take color first. Only until a few blues and reds form around rims, stars and lettering. Then turn over, repeat. That live metal is about the only virtue that might improve without messing up anything else.
That eagle is laughing at you, not with you!
The market for bust quarters does not reward that look, color or surface. When you start to see the color and surface differences surrounding raised areas such as the stars (stars 8 and 9 really show this) it starts to raise questions on the originality of the surfaces. The eagle and the lettering on the reverse is similar. Notice how around most of the raised areas it looks lighter in color which some people call the halo effect. It seems to be missing its patina and the lighter color could be a result of light polishing not reaching the areas next to the higher points. Regardless, I still love any old bust quarter with that much meat left on the bone
For comparison, here is my PCGS XF45 quarter.

Yours has more detail and any cleaning looks market acceptable to me, but lighting can make just about anything look natural or unnatural. I don't know if acetone would help at all.
