What is a "Master Collector" rating on CU

SORRY, I posted this on the Question/Answer forum. Received 3 views and one reply: "I don't know."
I'M impatient. Several over here are "Master Collectors." What does it mean and what did you do to get it?
Just curious...I have noticed that several very new members w/very few posts, likes, agrees, and discussions have been awarded "Master Collector" status.

It only means you have a lot of time on your hands and have posted a lot of times.
It just means you've earned 1000 points here on the forum. So far, looks like you have just under 300 points. It seems that you get points for getting likes and agrees on your posts and for getting badges too, but I don't know exactly how it works. Just post and have fun and I'm sure you'll eventually be a "master" as well.

Thanks for taking the time to answer! However, those answers do not seem to be the case.
As I posted, several very new members (less than two months) w/very few posts (less than 100), likes, agrees, and discussions (no badges yet for these or badge for first post, etc) have been awarded "Master Collector" status. Why? Any more suggestions?
PS It appears 1 point is awarded for each like or agree. You also get points for other things possibly years in. I have not figured out the stars but it is not connected chiefly to # of posts or points.
I'm not a master collector and as I don't purchase a lot of coins and most that I do purchase are counterfeits...LOL.
I would think members like Trade Dollar Nut should be a master collector. Not a neophyte.
You need to learn the secret handshake...

Rats, I'm a germophobe.
@grote15 The plot thickens...You were made an "Expert Collector" last month. Do you have a PCGS Registry Set?
...I found something you said that I liked...so I "Liked" it and you are now one point closer to your goal
He passed 500 points... that's what it takes for 4 stars and to be an "expert." 1000 points gets you 5 stars and "master." If you're seeing someone with "master" and they do no have 1000 points, it's possible CU manually gave that to them for some reason (employee, friend, etc.).

According to the Sheldon Scale, it means you've mastered the art of using the tools of the trade. And you're also included as one outstanding addition to the world of coins, but don't quote me on this meaning. I sometimes make stuff up, for fun here.

Where does it even say that anymore?
It use to be listed under your photo but I don't see it any more?
Hover your cursor over the stars and it will appear.
I see,,,,,

but just like my I-phone,,,,,, how are you supposed to know all this stuff?????
No instructions and all this High-Tech stuff is "FRENCH" to me.
I actually had no idea until this thread piqued my interest
You asked essentially the same question back on January 26:
https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/975267/what-do-stars-at-the-top-of-the-post-mean/p1
Here's my post from that thread, edited to add the Collector labels that appear if you hover your mouse over the stars:

I believe this is correct. Expanding on this slightly, it appears the scale is:
* = 0 - 49 points [Member]
** = 50 - 99 [Veteran]
*** = 100 - 499 [Collector]
**** = 500 - 999 [Expert Collector]
***** = 1000 + [Master Collector]
I doubt people really care if their posts show ** or ***.
But *** and higher suggests a person has posted quite a lot, and some of their posts got positive responses.
As a test, I clicked on Insider2's username, and it said he had 75 points.
I then clicked on "Like" on his post, and checked his username again, and it had 76. So a Like gives you 1 point....
Thanks for the info
If he had 75 points he would have 2 stars, right? I think he has closer to 300, but something like 1400 disagrees, he knows how to get a reaction, ill give him that. ha

He had 75-76 points on January 26.
Other things have changed since then; more people have the ***** rating now.
working on 1000 posts over on the fishing forum. Do I get a special title?
No Way Out: Stimulus and Money Printing Are the Only Path Left
TDN is indeed ranked as a master collector.
It seems this title is much more geared towards agrees/likes/lol's than just the gross number of posts. Some people with barely 800-1300 posts have made it to the master level while others with over 10,000-15,000 posts might not be there yet. Not exactly a level playing field.
Recent activity on this new system carries FAR more weight then what happened from 2001-2015. The system will allow you to go from newbie to master collector status in 4-6 months if you are prolific and/or controversial enough.
@3keepSECRETif2rDEAD
Your handle is one of the funniest. I ROTFL (? is that right?) each time I see a post of yours.

Hummm. That makes sense.

Are you sure? I refuted the theory of stars. You were correct about like and agree adding a point. I'm going to do more investigating to test this out.
Is any of this important. No. I'm content in my own skin; however, I like to figure out how things are done. I wish to learn the "secret handshake." When I see an anomaly that completely shatters any logic, It makes me curious. Furthermore, I learned very quickly to disregard the number of stars, posts, badges, and points a member has. What they write identifies them to me and I've made my own list of the pros here plus two of the humorous minion "stalkers" who get their chained pulled whenever I can @FellintoOblivion.

Well, it seems I'm the King of Controversy (1.4K times
) and hope to keep on rolling.
Hey, if dislikes counted against the agrees/likes/lols....then you'd never get there....lol. I just gave you some points to help get you to 4 star general quicker....now over 300. Interesting that you have a permanent disagree-er
Just discovered there is some definite stuff going on that does not compute. The game is rigged so no point trying to figure it out. I found a new poster with a little over 40 agree's and likes (1 point each = about 45) that has been awarded 85 points! Thankfully it looks like the computer program is weighted to the young collectors which is good. Get them all up to three stars fast so they will feel good and be on par with most of us. That should encourage them to hang around, post questions, lurk and learn.
There may be a fractional penalty involved for those 1400 dislikes. Can't be too much thought or you'd have a NET ZERO points. Whatever formula is used for net points it's not the sum of the individual categories, nor do total number of posts really matter. Look at Derryb with over 23,500 posts and 1150+ "visits" and still not at 5 stars. I usually don't log off, so I'm only showing 15 visits since this system started up. That doesn't count against you either.
I agree, I'm 100% sure dislikes count and I will never get over to the promise land; but it's great to have a "record" that should probably never be broken while every one here will think I'm a real devil!
Have a funny (to me anyway) story that happened on another site while I was trying to figure out the workings and which members were the best ones to follow and learn from. Over there, your posts are counted and the number of members who like your post is counted too. Obviously, if a member posted 100 times and had 89 likes, the percentage of likes vs posts (89%) should give you an idea of his knowledge (take away some for the minions who like everything). So after I joined, I did the percentages for several of the members who know their stuff. Some had ratings higher than 200% while I was running about 35%. When I started a thread of what I had done to get an idea of the knowledge of posters without needing to read all their posts, one "special case" (like the young stalker here) looked up my posts and gave me a bunch of likes. It raised my percentage an entire point. It's very funny but it's not right.
Thanks for the post, so we now know how we rate on this forum. I never knew that I have 300+ points and am happy to know that I have that many. I prefer to focus on my collection rather than discussions on coin collecting in general. But this forum is a great place to interact with collectors and their passions that probably do not relate with your series.
As an amateur in this business, I am grateful for any points that I might receive.
OINK
I don't log off all day at work. Anyway, now I'm convinced that the webmaster here has a hand in everything. When a member posts good stuff it counts. If a new member asks lots of the typical questions that generate a lot of helpful answers from others it's a good thing.
I'm a member over at the NGC site. I don't know if they have any "points" and stuff. It's all a little childish but fun. Unfortunately, the place is typically "dead" with hardly any action. I know the webmistress and the guys who answer many of the posts. I feel sorry for them. It would take a dozen people to moderate this place!
@roadrunner
I sent you a PM last September asking you to join another forum and got no reply. Did you get it?
One day I want to find out your ID and reveal mine if you are interested and can keep a secret.
One more funny story. On another site I had a few trolls convinced I was a woman and I was dating a major TPGS grader. Apparently, lying about yourself is not tolerated even when joking.
I am totally blown away with your 1400 disagree posts. I have only 6 and only on one thread. And you have less than 1000 posts. I enjoy your historical perspective of collecting coins then and in to the future.
But with 1300 dislikes you are now the Howard Stern here........
OINK
Does a dislike mean you disliked others peoples post or other people disliked your posts?
Other people disliked your posts.
OUCH!!!!!
Dislike and disagree are totally different things. There is no "dislike" option.
Someone can "disagree" with your post because you said a single thing (among a dozen statements) that they didn't agree with. It could be a fact you misstated or a difference of opinion. It could be a fact you accurately stated and someone else who goes by hearsay or common knowledge, thinks your wrong. I look at my posts that caused a "disagree" response and I can rarely guess what they were disagreeing with. And in cases where I'm quoting factual coin market history, I can only shake my head when that produces a "disagree" from someone who wasn't there.
Yes, @GRANDAM mentioned dislike and I responded with the same. I think both are meant to be disagree.
I think it's healthy to have some disagreement on subjective discussions. It may be strange if there isn't any.
OK, I meant to say disagree,,,,,,, either way,,,,,, OUCH
It's not the number of posts, but the number of votes (Like, Agree, LOL, etc.) that other members bestow on you.

Thank you for the encouragement. I have always enjoyed being odd-man-out. Their are many old dinosaurs here who have made CU my daily School of Numismatics.

I'll add a few more possibilities:
IMO, any poster who disagrees with a post and does not give a reason should be "blocked" from further activity of any kind on any thread here UNTIL they go back and post the reason they disagreed.
I feel sorry for the 2-3 new members around here that deserve this treatment and hope they will eventually grow to be informed collectors who can back up their insignificant "blips" in the threads.
Do you put a lot of worms on hooks? Then yeah...
