American Silver Eagle Question

RelaxnRelaxn Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭✭✭

I watch that stupid Coin Collector show on HSN sometimes late at night... usually to mock and scoff at his BS. My question... he is on here hyping ASE's made at various mints... Claiming the mint struck eagles at various mints in attempt to lie to the public and, in essence, complete fraud... he then says they are selling the 2013 ASE that was struck in San francisco for 4600$...

1) Are these things special or going to be?
2) is this all hype? Do the ASE collectors care?
3) how does this guy sleep at night?

    1. Yes. it's the millennium edition of pet rock.

    2. Depends. Would you care about the rocks in your backyard if they stay healthy? (also waiting on pet-rock owners to respond.)

    3. With a big smile.

The 2013 (S) bullion ASE certified as "Struck in San Fran" sells for $25 in 69 grade and maybe $40 in 70 and I will assume you meant $46.00 not $4600...even HSN isn't that lame

    As a comparison ...

    https://hsn.com/products/2015-ms70-philadelphia-mint-silver-eagle-dollar-coin/8436615

    $4999.95 (plus $5 s/h) for a 2015 "Philadelphia" American Silver Eagle graded ANACS MS-70

That makes the same coin in ANACS MS-69 a bargain at $599.95 (plus $5 s/h)!

Lot's of folks are going to wake up in 5 or so years and wonder what the heck they were thinking!

The next thing they'll think is where this fella lives to extract their pound of flesh.

Unfortunately, the Silver Eagle "Hype Machine" is in full swing and there are lots and lots of misinformed folks out there that actually believe they are getting in on the ground floor of some super rarity.

Boy are they gonna be shocked.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

They are really pushing the P,S,W Silver eagles bullion coin sets right now. I have no idea what $4600 coin he is referring to.

I don't feel these coins are anything special, and hope they don't gain traction. HSN is not really selling coins; more like dreams & fairytales

Man, he is pushing it hard and keep calling it the "secret coins" or something...
They are claimimg that a 2013 Eagle was struck in Philadelphia and it is the "key date"...

It all seems so absurd to me... I dont "collect" eagles they are just part of my buillon stacks... thus I wanted to ask others their opinions.

Are these coins really traceable to each mint? Does PCGS recognize these coins?
If they do are they going to be in registries?

I just feel like he is fleecing everyone with this hype... using words like secret, one day only, clandestine, key dates etc....

Thousands of no mint mark 2014-2017 ASEs were slabbed as struck at SF and Philly based on a release from the mint that monster boxes with certain serial numbers were minted there.

The TPGs slabbed sealed boxes based on this info. Since then the US mint has reported those serial numbers for the 2015 Philly strikes were incorrect.

Brings into question all of the mint release info on this fiasco.

And the people who bought into the hype are just SOL? Wow these seems insane... Watching this guy hype these things makes my stomach hurt.

I was in a coin shop in NJ a few years ago and a older gentlemen (75+) walks in with a bunch of graded gold eagles that he had bought from HSN... he even has the receipts with him. Showed he paid 3300 for a 1 oz piece and equally insane numbers for fractionals....
They told him the coins were worth spot + 3% or something like that... He broke down and said that they were the 4th dealer to tell him that... He said he had 20 more ounces just like that... he was so visibly upset... it was awful

First thing you need to get straight is, everything he says is true, there is no fraud...when you can understand that, then you don't worry about it...

My guess this has been going on since the mid-2000's, when bullion eagles reached 8-figure sales.

Someone file a FOIA. Maybe we can get this up to fever pitched levels. I need some good long-term entertainment.

I watched that show once.... well..half way through... then I was so PO'd I changed the channel... what a bunch of garbage.. would never watch it again...and yes, I have known people who bought that stuff (not the ASE's, other junk)... and they really get angry when you tell them the truth. Cheers, RickO
