The 1855-O $20 is the 3rd rarest O-mint twenty behind the ultra-rare ’54-O and ’56-O. I have always thought it was underappreciated compared with those two.

You are correct and over the last three years I have seen more 54 and 56Os come to auction than 55s. The one I have was graded a 55 in the mid 1980s and frankly I think is a better coin than the 50 O in terms of luster remaining and wear. Compare the hair just below Liberty's forehead and around the ears on both coins. PCGS has always been the grader of this coin, at least since the very early 1990s. I would be interested in what collectors think.
I really don't care as this is a coin I chased for a while maybe longer and I don't plan n letting it go.
As far as price performance the type one New Orleans $20 have recovered above their pre 2008 levels with the exception of the two you mentioned above.

Thanks Ricko! I also put pictures of the 1795 flowing hair I sent to PCGS. Got it back after a long wait. This is the coin I referred to in a previous thread and I told you I would get it under a good camera and finally did.

Thanks to all. I would go get a $20 1861 O in 58 this weekend but I have to mow the lawn and refinish my front door.
