Great new coin holder from China

Take a look at this coin holder from China. Costs less than 3 bucks, including delivery.
A great option for some of your lesser value coins not worth slabbing.
(coin showed is a 1918 doubled die reverse that i got from eBay for $2 (from Canada) and I will now “slab it”

Thank goodness it is impossible to print the NGC inserts correctly or otherwise this would be a problem.
With a computer and a bit of effort and skill I bet a pretty dangerous label could be created to look almost exactly like
a real NGC label

Scary...
Actually, this slab is NOT deceptive for a person who knows that the NGC case parts are "keyed" and not flat.
Besides, any boob can make a fake holder with commercially available parts and a computer that would fool another boob who does not know what a genuine TPGS slab or label looks like.
Unfortunately, given the large number of holder changes done by the major TPGs most collectors are not going to be able to spot an unofficial holder.
spot on insider2, but it is still a great holder for a lower valued coin that cannot be economically slabbed

I like this. Would be perfect for my Buffalo sets that I am not grading. who do we get these from?
thanks,

I agree. There are several "types' of folks with coins. They range from folks who know nothing but were given some coins and that's where it stopped, up through hoarders, roll searchers and accumulators; to folks who actually collect and read about coins; to collectors who own slabs and attend shows; all the way to those who buy million dollar items.
You would not believe the fake crap that passes as a genuine slab. These fool the folks at the low end of my comments - the folks who have never seen a slab.
Example: I think that may only apply to 2% of the brand new members who show a corroded Lincoln cent and ask if it is a mint error?
Looks like an oil slick on the inside of those holder halves...some pretty colors may transpose onto the coins placed inside.

Yup, I love these things. I got some weird looks with this one:

PCCB coin holders on ebay. Just find your size. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Holder-PCCB-Protector-Coin-Display-Slab-for-NGC-PCGS-Grade-Collection-Box-32-5MM-/201646594597?hash=item2ef312da25:g:0MIAAOSwdzVXsRTf
got one of the obverse? just wondering.
many thanks
Twobitcollector had some Dan Carr pieces in these holders a few months back so I bought some and they are great. I picked up 20 white and 20 black ones. My zombucks look awesome in the black slabs.
If it has to do with coins, and it comes from China, I don't want it. So long as the Chinese Government does nothing about the counterfeit coins they are sending to this country I will boycott all of their products. That goes for pandas, rats or any other animals that they depict on their coins.
While individuals take action, on the larger scale, it seems hard to tackle many issues in the hobby including counterfeiting, doctoring and gradeflation.
They also come in red and clear. I have a few of the clear ones but still need to get some coins in them.
I know one person can't do much of anything, but I'm not going to contribute to the garbage. Making and selling counterfeits is worse than gradeflation and doctoring. All three are fraud, but selling counterfeits is equal to selling manure for use anywhere except in the garden. It’s the lowest of the low from the numismatic standpoint, but it is stock and trade for more than a few Chinese be it hijacked movies or knock-offs with brand names one them.
I haven't seen anyone defend counterfeits, but gradeflation and doctoring seem to have a fair number of defenders. One interesting perspective is that counterfeiting is done overseas so perhaps it's easy to point it out because it's less under our control, but the others are done domestically and theoretically more under our control. But instead of taking action where we can, we continue to implicitly approve them.
A big issue with Chinese counterfeiting is that it's not counterfeiting in China, it's legal under their law (for pre-1949 coins). It's their law that must be addressed. Similar to how the US government pressures Canada and other nations to pass laws to protect our movies, the US government would need to pressure the government of China to change their law. It can be done for some industries, why not ours? Should organizations like the ANA and PNG be involved in lobbying the US government to change Chinese laws? Should the ANA Presidential candidates be asked for their positions on these issues?
Between grade-flation and doctoring, doctoring is the worse. Once a coin has been ruined, it's ruined. I've seen that with a couple of items that are on my prime want list. The thing that really burns me is that NGC is giving straight grades to ruined coins which allows dealers to ask full price for them.
You might say no one will buy them, but as a former dealer, I'll tell you that everything sells eventually. Even if the price is at a discount, it's still probably going to be higher than what a "details" grade coin will bring.
never mind.
Thank goodness it is impossible to print the NGC inserts correctly or otherwise this would be a problem.> @lkeigwin said:
Why throw away a perfectly good coin just for the label?
No need to throw away the coin since you can just send it in to be graded again.
I wonder where PCGS manufacturers their slabs....
Not sure about their slabs, but PCGS seems to have a fairly big China presence. It is a big market and they have many collectors so it may make good business sense to work there. The following is from PCGS.com.cn:
It was a rhetorical question, I don't have anything in a PCGS slab so I can't check but I would be incredibly surprised if they weren't manufactured in China. There's no reason to produce anything plastic in the US unless you want to be able to say your company makes things in America and I don't see that on the PCGS website.
Yes, I know that the Chinese have huge and growing market. PCGS, NGC and the rest can go ahead and mine it for whatever profits they can make. Perhaps that and a lot of other business will keep the Chinese from starting World War III or letting the North Koreans start it.
If the PCGS holder is made in China, let’s hope the manufacturer is not selling it to other parties. At any rate, I regard PCGS graded coins as an American product.
The cars I drive, which are Cadillacs, probably have Chinese parts in them. It’s the way it goes, and as a consumer you are cutting off your nose to spite your face in you boycott American made products with Chinese parts in them.
I don’t need to buy Chinese coins, however, and I’m not going to even look at them until they change their policies toward counterfeit production. That’s my position, and you can call me a fool. I am sick and tired of Chinese counterfeit coins. They pose a threat to all coin collectors whether you are fooled by them or not. They have damaged the trust in the U.S. coin market.
I'm sure I am not the only one with dozens of certs from past crackouts.
Lance.
What's the diff?
A DIY holder or an NGC?
Oh, this is gonna start a fire.
My daughter bought some zombucks for my grandson!! Never seen anything like those. That's a good case for those

They actually don't manufacture their own slabs, they use two different companies for that. PCGS creates and owns the dies that make the different parts of the holders (slab, gaskets etc), but they don't actually manufacture it themselves. I'm sure there are tight controls, but still worth knowing.
To return to the OP - these are not new, I've bought them for at least 3 years and for the same purpose, to house & protect coins that aren't worth having slabbed but at part of a slabbed collection.

You should contact PCGS and NGC and share your extensive expertise with them. I'll bet they use expert outside consultants like you for many things and even pay them!
Here is my first slabbed buff using this holder.

looks great, less filling, coin cost me two bucks and the holder three.

here is the reverse of above “slab”

This is one of the reasons PCGS used DuPont holograms in 2014. However, it seems these are no longer being used. Anyone know why?
Hmmm... I think it's no coincidence that this Chinese holder is made to look like an NGC slab.
The Chinese culture is opposite of the Euro/American culture. Integrity, Honesty are not part of Far/East culture. I am not blaming them, that's just they way it is. Counterfeiting is done proudly. Unfortunately it is damaging our hobby badly. I never saw this coming 30 years ago when I came back into the hobby. PCGS and NGC better do some thing or there will be few buyers for "Fake coins in fake plastic".

With 3D printers now dirt cheap, and raw materials plentiful, home slabbers can make their own. As far as mass production, injection molding is still the best method. Cheers, RickO
I really enjoy these slabs, I'm glad I picked up a few.
I agree it's not a coincidence. At least they are imprinted with PCCB on them.
I wouldn't make sweeping generalizations about everyone in a culture, positive or negative.
Certain Chinese counterfeit and certain Americans doctor. The hobby is being harmed by a lack of integrity and honesty by certain members of both Chinese and American cultures.
I think counterfeiting, doctoring and gradeflation are the 3 big issues the hobby needs to tackle. The Chinese are also not responsible for gradeflation.
