Hint, it has something to do with what I took an interest in collecting in the past 12 months.

A die punch trial?
Whatever it is, it's very cool.

No clue, but that this is awesome!
It's exactly 2.5' by 1.25' and yes, it is an ancient shield for battle.
That is one cool piece! I'm guessing it's the work of Mr. Bolen?
That's massive(ly cool)!
You guys combined are nearly there... It's probably Bolen experimenting with self-portraits. The piece is unique. It was in a small Bolen and Merriam hoard (total 13 pieces) that I was fortunate enough to acquire today from Neil Musante...he visited with me today, and when he left I was a lot poorer
See envelope below. I covered up the price so you guys won't think that I'm insane
My dimensions must be wrong if it fits in that small envelope ...damn!
Cool piece either way! (thumbs up)
Good work GE!
Awesome is better than cool!!!!!!!!!!!
Well now you have to post photos of the other 12
It would fit in well with that framed set that @cardinal posted not too long ago.
Do you know what metal it is? To my eyes it looks like silver, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't.
..................and I was going to say that it was struck out of collar..................................

Looks like a quadruple-struck trial for the central portrait of a medal die! Perhaps J.A. Bolen was having a bad hair day when he made the die?? In any case, it certainly is a great piece of Bolen's legacy!
Very nice piece of metal art.....Cheers, RickO
