Long ago the habit formed of visiting Arlington National Cemetery very early on Saturday before Memorial Day. It is a misty, quiet, sombre and reflective time. Sacrifices of so many - not only in lives but in vacant futures of what might have been.
At sunrise, ceremony interrupts the spirits of those lost; mist fades as do our visions.
It is a genuine and sincere sentiment. But please remember: Veterans day is a special day to thank our veterans, and there is never a bad time to do that. But Memorial Day is to remember those who died fighting for our nation.
We are like children who look at print and see a serpent in the last letter but one, and a sword in the last. --Severian the Lame
Memorial Day .... I reflect on those endless rows of crosses in Arlington and the brave patriots below them. Also those cemeteries in Europe that hold so many young Americans. It is a time for remembrance and thanks. Cheers, RickO
