When attending any big Coin Show, which one would you likely purchase;
I know the buy all depends but just in general. Me personnally, would rather buy the Slabbed Coin. Cut out the middle man, I say.

Whichever is nicer...im much more likely to buy a raw coin i like if i can see it in person than online but i will not turn down either if they are acceptable!
Let's see the coins. Based on the past couple large shows I've been to I'd likely purchase both. If you want to know which coin I'd more likely spend $500 on, the answer would be the slabbed coin.

It fits what I am looking for.
Other than that it does not matter.
I would rather have the slabbed version, but I would not turn down a raw coin just based on it's own merits.

Is this a trick question?
The nicest coin, of course! If it is already slabbed by one of the Top 2, then that's a bonus.

Slabbed Modern Gold close to melt.
Almost always a slabbed one.
I like not having to GET it slabbed. Why gamble when you can have a sure thing?

Slabs....they are safer and a better investment.

I rarely buy raw U.S. coins these days. About only things I buy raw are theh annual silver Proof sets and the modern commemorative coins.
My specialties would skew the results here, so I will not answer in your poll. I collect sample slabs (which by definition must be in slabs), and also books (none of which are in slabs).

All else being equal, and both coins having equal eye-appeal, I would go for the slabbed one.

At a local show on Saturday, an old time dealer was bemoaning the dearth of nice raw Walkers. He said, "they're all in them slabs over there."
Indeed I would rather it was already slabbed, but if the raw coin is nicer, then I'd go with that.

i like the slabbed coin but if i see a coin thats raw that i like then ok. jmo
I don't go to a whole lot of shows, but I like to test my picking ability. Last big(ish) show I bought from I picked up a nice '35 Peace $1 for under $100 that came back from our hosts in a 64 holder. Not a huge win but it's fun for me. That '36 buff that I posted on here last year was also a raw coin show buy. Bought it as a 64, thought it had a shot at 66 but came back 65. I've had them swing the other way too, I bought a '13 T1 buff that I thought would go 65 but didn't quite make it.

You need an either option. I buy coins I need slabbed or raw. If the coin is in a PCGS holder that is a ++.
I usually look for old, odd, or unique holders, as well as Peaces for my registry set. So I usually buy Holdered coins. However, I do buy raw as well.
I lean towards the slabbed coins.... for the usual reasons. That being said, I have often picked up raw coins... My pride and joy five dollar Indian gold was raw - actually, still is...
and I am really happy with it. I have also picked up raw Buffs and Mercs.... and some raw Mexican gold. Cheers, RickO
