Did Dcarr ever strike the dolphin'd SLQ

MacNeil apparently wanted the columns left and right of Liberty to represent the Atlantic and Pacific, since the Panama Canal was on everyone's mind. I didn't see it in the MLM catalog. Maybe I missed it? Along the lines of the broken sword peace dollar...

We are like children who look at print and see a serpent in the last letter but one, and a sword in the last.

I like the design, especially the laurel branches over the dolphins' tails.
Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association
That would be very cool!
I would be a buyer for sure!
What was the 'porpoise' of having the dolphins on a coin?
I would buy 3 fantasies based on this obverse design Daniel
;^)
Lindy
very cool
I don't think so but the bronze cast was recently sold on HA.
My guess is it was just part of the Art Nouveau style mindset of time. A main part of which was depictions of flora & fauna
Do you have a link for that?
I have liked this design since I saw the first time. I would snag me a D. Carr version of this classic "could have been" beauty.

There has not been a Carr version, but another private mint did make these in proof finish. Anacs will slab them and one can often find examples on ebay.

Wow. I think even those who don't appreciate dcarr would look favorably upon his work compared to that piece.

It apparently didn't sell in the regular auction and it was then listed as an available "post auction buy".
I was in the process of negotiating with Heritage Auctions to purchase it and then suddenly I was simply told that it was no longer available.
If I had it in my possession I would definitely make some over-strikes from it.
Well that sucks. The Carr that could have been! I didn't watch the hammer just knew it was being auctioned off. Wonder why negotiations abruptly ended. Too bad.
so would i. i like the looks of that
Man, you should have just pulled the trigger! From the comments and enthusiasm here, it seems the overstrikes probably would have paid for that bronze casting. Besides, it would look sweet next to the Peace casting you scored of the bay. Moonlight Museum...

Very nice design.... Too bad you missed the castings.... would make an interesting piece to display... Cheers, RickO
Would have been amazing to add to the Peace dollar and the Lincoln in the works! It's great to see original designs brought to life!
Beautiful cast, I really like the design. Hopefully it shakes loose down the road. I'd be in for one too Dan if you ever land it!
That is an unfortunate set of events!! Anyway to track down the buyer? Anybody with friends at heritage that might be able to find anything out. Sigh...... I'm sure heritage has a strict privacy policy which is understandable guess you can't win them all but man I really like that design.
I'd imagine that a likely scenario is that it disappeared from the HA site because someone stepped up and purchased it for the amount that HA was asking for. If that were the case, then there might be little incentive for the buyer to entertain a lower offer or a business proposition.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Lend it to Danny!

Oh yes. This would be a definite D. Carr winner. Over-strike a bonus.
Maybe he needs to negotiate a "Stud Fee".

Thanks for the super close up Bullsitter. A worthy project for Dan.
I like the dolphins, but it looks like they're dying. Someone push them back into the ocean!
The dolphins are very odd looking - whale heads, duckbills and fish fins/tails. Look more like a mahi-mahi (dolphin fish) with a duck bill
Those are classic Greco-Roman dolphins. Keep them as they are!

I like the "In God We Trust" banner.
Obverse sold for $56,400.00 with BP according to HA.
Anyone know who the private mint that made these was?
I like the Eagle on the shield.
Ah, that makes sense. They must have swam there from the panama pacific gold dollar.
Ha ha, good one. Well, I think Danny could still do this one.
Well, just Love coins, period.
This is "The Angry Dolphin Variety"
It was the predecessor to the "The Angry Eagle" and "Friendly Eagle Variety" on Eisenhower Dollars.
I have looked and can't find anything. All that I usually find is the token in an Anacs holder and no other information. It seems like an item that would be made by one the TV sellers.
Maybe someone could contact Anacs to find out who made these?
I actually like the dolphin slq a lot
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
