NH coin expo report

I have decided to take a day off from work and go to a coin show. After dropping off my kid at the daycare I went straight to the show in downtown Manchester. Easy drive, easy acccess, parking garage connected to expo and $6 validated parking. Just perfect.

I decided to pay for early admission for the first time ever. The redo was that I had to pick up my kid from daycare before 1 pm and I figured that early admission would buy me a few hours to browse

I did not have a list of coins to buy except trying to to finish my circulated barber halves set. Six coins to go als none in the grade or condition I liked.

Going in early is good and bad at the same time. Good part is that I beat the crowd but the bad art is that the dealers are setting up, walking around and is hard to keep track of tables.

After the walk around I found two coins I was really interested in. One was a 1922 peace doily in MS64 and another was seated surfer with108xxxxx slab number. The broblem with the 108xxxxx was that it was housing 1867 quarter in MS64. My curiosity took over and I asked how much was it. It was 11k or my coin budget for the entire decade.

Then I went to ask about the doily. The dealer has four trays of SEGS "certified" hobo nickels. I asked about doily. He knew what it was and when when he told me price I almost told him to stop drinking cool aid. $400 for common peace that may bump a grade to 65 on a good day. Needless to say I passed. I'm willing to pay a little premium but I will not pay stupid money for coins.

Then I went hunting. First coin I bought was 1884 dollar with small dot in EF and 1821 dime in fine with the black and white cameo look. I bough a couple of toned Morgans and 1884S Morgan in AU50 in NHC holder that had PL surfaces. My final stop yielded a bunch toned early Jefferson nickels, 1868 nickel with repunched date and 1938-D lazy D dime.

I looked busy when I left just after 12.

I was in the same boat as you. Told the boss I was taking the day off. Dropped the boy off at preschool and made the hour trip. I agree it was still busy when I left at 2:30. Talked to a few dealers since and they said it was a very good show for them

Nice meeting you as well. The last Doily I sold was in the same price range. Anyone if free to make me a counter offer if they feel the price is out of range. I'll always listen to an offer. I do find it interesting that out of all the coins at the show you agree with me that it was one of the coolest. Unfortunately that coolness of 2 coins in the entire show was not worth a premium for you. That's ok. Maybe next time. Thanks. Jon

    PS

Show is on today Sat. Stop bye

Good report... had to laugh at the kool aid comment... Jon, I am sure it is a nice coin and in a doily as well... Sounds as if it was a nice show though. I need to get to a good sized show.... getting the fever for a nice 1921 Peace dollar... no special reason, just the thread from Roger and some other comments lately...Thanks for the report.. Cheers, RickO

As I explained it's the holder in this case, the coin is just ok. Nothing special...

Now if he had just asked I would have shown him some other like this one lol

Thanks for the report. I've always liked that show. Busy this weekend, but I considered trying to fit it in.

I made the 7 hour round trip on Friday and except for 2 ten oz silver bars I came home empty-handed. :( It did seem to be quite busy. I would say the raw coins outnumbered the slabbled coins by far. Even so, any day at a coin show is still a good day.

Does anyone who was at the show this afternoon, know the status of (and possibly the circumstances surrounding) the theft that occurred today?? Happened to one of the currency guys.

I had some notes Bim was looking at, to purchase, and in the middle of everything, security came by, and Bim excused himself, and he was gone. Spoke with his wife (?) after he left, inquired if it was, indeed, a theft, and she confirmed. I don't know the value, but it was one of those 'opportunistic' thefts, where things got a little too busy at his table, and that's when the thief walked away from his table. Anybody?? Inquiring minds would like to know....Thanks!

    I'll come up with something.

It's a good show generally and location for the northern New Englanders, have done some business at that show and with some nearby dealers.
