    I would like to obtain one of these flips, but the possessors are mighty proud of them...at least the ones that I have seen for sale.

    It seems these have gained in popularity over the last few years. A few years back there was one ebay seller who sold 5-10 Buffalo Nickels in the 30-50 range and I sold a Franklin for about 40 (it took a while and the buyer talked me down from 50). It seems a few are still listed at that price point, but most are selling for 60-75 (and even more for better coins).

    Its weird how almost all the Hall flips I have seen are graded MS65.

    I have sold about a half dozen of them. They always carried a substantial premium.

    Does anyone know if the blue flips are older than the beige flips or is it vice versa?

    The brown/beige flips are older and harder to find, I believe.

    Unfortunately the Peace dollar is a Mike Defalco flip - I just didn't know where else to store it. :D

    Oh I thought he said it was spoken for. Im sure it's not cheap, maybe I'll look into it. I'm assuming Justin is in Utah and you and Jeff A (Drunner) know each other. Are you a fellow Utahn? Maybe we will run into each other at a local show.

    Wrong. The ANA grading guide published in 1977 had only 60, 65 and 70. When I started ANACS grading on March 1, 1979 I added 63 and 67.

    I just picked one of these up on eBay around 2 months ago. I think they are pretty cool.. Mine had originally been printed up for a 1916-S Double Eagle, but I'm guessing the printing was miss-aligned so instead of throwing it away, they printed new information on a white sticker and applied it over the label.

    I used to see these at coin shows in the PNW in the early 2000's.... Never purchased one because there were not any of the coins I was looking for at the time... Now wish I had, they were quite reasonable then. Cheers, RickO

    One observations I would make is that every single coin in a DH flip is not toned. All blast white.

    Any toners out there in one of these flips?

    I believe that the coins in David Hall Flips were all placed in KoinTains,,,,,,, this explains the lack of toning.

    I believe that is true. Koin-Tains are wonderful for long-term storage.

    Did a non-scientific survey of my "hoard", as some would call it.

    67 David Hall Flips total.

    All the Brown Label flips are missing the David Hall name on the sealed part of the flip (present on all the blue ones).
    Only one smaller than normal flip that I assume predated the larger flips (picture below) - anyone know??
    Only 2 with any meaningful toning, both proof Jeff's (See below).

    2 pennies - 1 1937 BU red, 1 steel, both with black foam inserts
    6 Buff's - ALL 1938-D Gem Unc 65
    4 Jeff's - ALL proof "MS65", 2 toned (see below), all with black foam inserts
    11 Merc's - ALL Fully Struck Crossbands, Gem Unc 65, 1 with Brown Label
    3 Roosies, ALL proof "MS65", black foam inserts
    3 WA quarters, 2 Gem Unc, 1 Gem Proof "MS 65" with black foam insert
    8 WLH's, 7 Gem Unc (2 w/brown labels, one Blue label MS64), 1 Gem Proof w/black foam insert, brown label

    Bummer! But you do already have 6 of the same date ;)

    One thing I really liked about that one is that the coin is toned nicely. Seen many of these and except for a couple Morgans, haven't seen any others with any appreciable amount of color. Untoned coins seemed to be more in fashion at the time. And your hoard of these mostly w/o toning seems to confirm that a bit.

    I just assumed it at the time. I recall looking at the non-cert, non-coin number on the insert, and thinking it was either an invoice or customer number. Upon reflection, it seems more probable it may just of been a sequential identifier. If that is the case, perhaps it suggests a population of 80,000+ DHNIG flips (and my 4th and 5th pics need to be swapped). Maybe your small 84B-YB flip was a "in the beginning...." example.

    $50,000,000 in sales divided by 80,000 is an average price tag of $625. Could well be ball park accurate.
