Got a few Toned Morgans today, says he has 40 or more left. Here's one example. What do you think?

Decent mid-range color and eye appeal. I like the reverse better than the obverse on that one though.

The one shown has zero premium for toning and the obverse surface quality is horrendous.

If you like them go for it. When it comes to color here you will get from absolutely love them to absolutely hate them and everything in between. So color is your thing and you like the look of them and the price is right I'd say go for it

If you like the obverse toning/colors, here's one PCGS liked. The seller has a few with similar color, but the one below stands out the most to me.

It would be a waste of money to slab and TrueView this. That coin looks like a 61 to me. The color is ok but you're looking at around $30 there. Even abcde12345 didn't tell you to submit it.

The funny thing every time someone tells me not worth true viewing , I get it done and it pays very well.
I've sold a lot of nicely toned coins, BTW, some to large dealer for nice profits because of color.
So to each his own, and like I said I can't photograph worth a dare. But this one along with others will be sent in for true views .
Beauty in the eye of the beholder. But thank you for your opinions.

We've had this exact same discussion before. How did the Lincoln BIE cents works out? Do you have those TrueViews? Try taking pictures head-on rather than at an angle and it will help us.

Havent sent them in however did sell a silver eagle for 750.00
    2 40% Kennedy halves for 400.00 each
    61 proof lincoln 350.00
and more so it's working for me.
I have about 30 Lincolns to send in , and I'll wait till the rest of these dollars come in.
As for the "BIE"s they're being done more for fun.
It's not a big deal most don't like this coin, probably my pic, pretty sure if they saw it in person they'd at least say nice.
Not claiming it's a to die for, but a nicely toned Morgan.

I think the look is neutral but might just be the photo. If I could get them with little or no premium I'd go ahead and pick them all up. Just my opinion.

Where can you find these for $30? I've never seen BU Morgans that cheap, '21's yes, but pre-21's are usually around $40 from my experience. I'm also not a dealer, just a lowly collector so maybe that has something to do with it.

I was thinking that's what a dealer would pay. I was going to write $30-$35 the first time but maybe $35-$40 is more reasonable. I wouldn't think you could net more than $40 from selling an MS61 common Morgan. But sure, maybe a dealer would ask $50 for this one.

To the OP, what do you grade this coin and how much do you think it should sell for?

  • Options
    messydeskmessydesk Posts: 20,738 ✭✭✭✭✭

Color is not enough. The toning has to be attractive as does the underlying coin in order to add something. The OP coin doesn't really do anything for me.

I was just showing pretty toning IMHO, wasn't worried grade or value yet, just took a quick pic to show what they look like
But I have sold lots of toned coins, wether they fit your taste or not , some people and dealers like em.
