Perhaps it was looted from the Kuwaitis by the Iraquis?

I have doubts about this story.

Yep, probably baloney, except there appears to be a choice of vehicles. Then again, no better way to bring attention to your business than a claim of gold in the diesel tank and a receipt from the police.

The UK has a provision where you have to declare found treasure. Usually buried treasure and the like though. If this story is true I wonder if it applies to this situation.

I'm not sure, but I think after all the investigation and it's free of other claims, the finder ( eventually) gets around half.

Better question would be, how many similar windfalls are discovered and kept quiet. Obviously only the those that are revealed make the news.

This is an amazing (if true) story..... I do not know if the UK laws that apply to buried treasure apply to something like this...it is arguably different since it is not an antiquity (which they specify). As far as I have been able to discover, he was not legally obligated to report the find. Cheers, RickO

I'm sure like most forum members here, I check all my tanks after reading this. Sadly, I found nothing in my tanks. :'(

I did find a couple of cents in my SUV though. :)
