So I take it he won't be filing a SNAD claim?
why would he tell anyone ? Especially if he is in the UK they like to think everything you find is theirs
Two officers from Northamptonshire Police took the bars away for investigation and handed him a receipt.
Wild a$$ guess: it's the right thing to do?
He didn't steal the gold he bought the tank it was hidden in. It didn't belong to some poor old lady it was previously stolen from a bank in Germany at the end of world war 2 by a group of future Hollywood stars.
Perhaps it was looted from the Kuwaitis by the Iraquis?
My first thought was that Three Kings movie with George Clooney and Mark Walberg lol
I have doubts about this story.
He found the tank on Ebay?

Yep, probably baloney, except there appears to be a choice of vehicles. Then again, no better way to bring attention to your business than a claim of gold in the diesel tank and a receipt from the police.

It's daily mail cmon guys haha
Can tanks be stickered?
The UK has a provision where you have to declare found treasure. Usually buried treasure and the like though. If this story is true I wonder if it applies to this situation.
I'm not sure, but I think after all the investigation and it's free of other claims, the finder ( eventually) gets around half.
Was Izzy Switt ever in Baghdad?
Wow! I always forget to check my tanks whenever I buy them.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
What I could do with 2 million and a tank!!!!
Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,
I'm still surprised with how many people call the police or contact the Feds with their finds, much like those 1933 double eagles...
For real.... I'm hitting it with a torch and throwing in pocket change and cashing it in a little at a time
Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,
Better question would be, how many similar windfalls are discovered and kept quiet. Obviously only the those that are revealed make the news.
They say I'm usually full of...gold...
This is an amazing (if true) story..... I do not know if the UK laws that apply to buried treasure apply to something like this...it is arguably different since it is not an antiquity (which they specify). As far as I have been able to discover, he was not legally obligated to report the find. Cheers, RickO
Tanks for posting this most interesting story.
I'm sure like most forum members here, I check all my tanks after reading this. Sadly, I found nothing in my tanks.
I did find a couple of cents in my SUV though.

I bought a 78 Camaro about 20 years ago and found a couple of funny green cigarettes under the back seat.. Never looked in the gas tank though!!!
Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,
Where would one find a listing of such items?
He had no way to fence the stuff.
they supposedly filmed it for "proof" in case they found guns/ammo, so there is a video somewhere...

I think there is probably a tally somewhere, but since I have nothing to repatriate I won't go looking for it.
