This is the sophomore issue for American Liberty. If this were the first one in the series, I might have bought in.
I did buy the 2015 American Liberty, and the medals. Not sure if i'm even going to buy into the silver medals being offered later this year. Maybe the 4 medal reverse proof/enhanced set, depending on how it looks. I'll bet the premiums will be higher than the proof eagles, though.

I live in DC and remember about 25 years or so ago, they lifted the statue of freedom from atop the capital dome and rested her in Capital park as they restored her. I remember walking by and gawking (The statue is huge). I noticed the headband and tried to figure out if that was it or was it something I ate or drank.
During my stop in Baltimore, I saw her and her silver sisters on the turntable. The coin seems huge, The light play was very appealing obverse and reverse. I immediately thought of that 4-coin slab. Put money in the bank last night and charged her at 12:04, no regrets I remember those who balked at the 2009 UHR premium, (one of my best mint buys at issue price) they're not bullion, I think she'll do fine the fewer the better.
The days of hitting home runs of US Mint releases are long gone. You will not see any huge profits from flips like in the old days.

Coulda easily doubled you money the other day, with no limits on how much you spent. Sounds like a home run to me.
Five silver medals now, wow. First one to go on sale in June! The other 4 to be sold as a set later in the year. Why do we need 5? I would like to keep my 70's going from last year, but this could get expensive!

I believe it's only 4 silver medals, one from each minting facility, each with a different finish. No guarantee there will be a 4 coin set. The Mint has let us down several times of late by not offering sets.
This is a trigger that I've not been able to pull, yet. This of course means that the coin will be highly sought after it goes off-sale, unless I decide to buy one, in which case the market will never materialize.

June, I believe. It will be a P-mint proof.
From what I've read, the four coin set (and it will be a set), will be like the Kennedy four coin, with a RP from Philly, an S-Mint Proof, a W-mint Enhanced, and a D-mint uncirc.
The mint stated (back in October of last year) that the four coins set would double the number of medals issued in 2016.
Let's speculate on what that means. Last year they issued 12.5K medals from 'Frisco and West Point. Does that mean 50K sets, or 50K medals?
If 50K medals, then that's 12.5K sets, or another instant sell-out. If it's 50K sets, it'll take a little longer, maybe 15 minutes.
If they keep the pricing similar to last year's, the set should be about $140.
Thanks for the response, Backroad. Looks like another one to watch!

To put it bluntly, this is the first in a series of medals of different races on the coin and medals. I believe we'll even see an Asian liberty at some point. This is the outcome of the Artistic Infusion program, where we'll see designs from different artists chosen by committee. If that doesn't scare you...
However, the Mint's name of the 2015 coin is the "High Relief American Liberty", the name of the medals are the "American Liberty 2016 Silver Medals". It's kinda hard to overlook that when you're trying to figure out the first of the "American Liberty" series.

It'll sell-out in 2 minutes if there's no household limit -- just like the recent 2017-S ASE.
But I think it's more likely there'll be a HHL of 2 (same as the 2016 medal).
Either way, I expect a quick sell-out.

ACTUAL shipping happened today with the package arriving and departing Memphis. The emailed shipping notice received on Friday is stretching it somewhat to look good. It's still better than the last order fulfillment company. So I can't complain to much. (hahaha complaint supply is never depleted)
Just delivered to my door by a uniformed representative of a quasi governmental agency. Some fancy box...heavy too. 1.4 pounds. Embossed hard cover booklet. Black lacquered wood box. Very nice proof with light frost on her. Slightly concave. WOW
It would be nice if they offered this fancy presentation box as an option. It's gotta add $50+ to the price. A regular cardboard box like the ASE comes in would have been OK. They went all out on this one.
@kiyote said:
Is there room in the box for a slab? The mint has done that a couple of times. It sure helps.
In a word, yes.
If you are familiar with this style of Mint presentation box, there is an insert, 1/2" thick, gold stamped with the words "225th Anniversary" at the top. A fitted hole in the center with a thin rubber like material gasket around the outer edge for a tight fit of the encapsulated coin. There is a back chamfered edge across the lower front of the insert so it will fit and not move within the box.
A slab, set sideways, across the top of the insert fits nicely. The top of the box will still close with no problem.
I will attempt to get pictures a little later, it's 6:15 am, showing the coin, in position, in the box. Showing the convex look, the frosting of her head and the mirrored field. And a slab in place across the insert.

I wish I knew how sales were going. The mint has not updated their sales for two weeks.
Yeah, makes no sense, unless they're hiding the sales of this coin. I suppose it could be inventory week, but I checked last year's sales reports at this time, and there are no missing reports. (Has anyone heard of a real reason behind it? Is Mike White on vacation or something?)
The 24k proof Buff gets released in a month. it will be interesting to compare how it does versus the AmLib. (The Proof Buff averages about 20K/year, and is $50 cheaper less expensive than the AmLib.)
I am ambivalent about this coin. Though I don't like the design, the thing that really kept me out of this was the ridiculous mark up over spot. The sales of the medals will probably determine whether people stayed out because of the price or the design. (The price of the medals will be 2.5-3 times silver spot, but will still be much more affordable...)

combine a modern take in high relief and the next step up is bust coinage, and we could have a very, very pleasant new coin.

I gotta have coffee first before I try to capture suitable pix in my phone. When you see yours in person I think you will be satisfied.
Nothing beats in hand viewing. This coin is better than the Mint's drawings depict.
Like it or not this will be a rare coin when they melt the other 80k of them.

Ridiculous
The price of the Gold Buffalo will probably be $1640.
Which was the price of the Liberty during the first week.
I will buy the silver versions. The gold liberty is just not in my budget this year.
Box of 20
If the mint struck 100,000 of these they will be on sale for ten more years.
They sure put a lot into the packaging. Probably why it has a high premium over the metal value.
