Congrats Rocco. But not the best thread title I've seen. :) I didn't know what I was going to see. But clicked nonetheless.

    Thank you, and everyone!
there are quite a few proof varieties indeed. If people catch on the the re engraved more...there will be at least 10 more proof varieties in this era. I am attempting to assemble examples for 1938-1954. There are MANY more than currently recognized.
I won't shoot myself in the foot further, but I will say to all serious Jefferson collectors, look Very carefully at your 38-54 proofs... and as many others as you can.

I intend to post an in depth image catalog (on this site) of all the early Jeffs as soon as I complete my re engraved unofficial set, and my funds resuscitate
I've counted 25 varieties of re engraved 38-54.

If anyone knows a resource for the quantity of proof dies per year for early Jeffersons it would help my research immensely
    Particularly obverse dies.
    Thanks and best wishes.

    Rocco

Also if anyone has proofs in this year range that is willing to mail them to me for examination, or detailed clear images to share PM me. I will reimburse shipping expenses.

Nice work, and a funny title!
Don't think I've heard that term used for a few years......I couldn't figure out if you were going to tell us you spent $200 on a nickel....or were going to take us somewhere else......glad you didn't take us there!

Keep this thread going. I am not sure how I come out on this topic, but I am learning a lot. I guess the simplest conclusion I have come to is the knowledge that I don't understand the topic completely and, therefore, must seek an expert's opinion before I buy such a coin. I do own a single high grade "blue-toned" coin, but it is a foreign coin. I guess I can also safely say "proceed with extreme caution!"
