Is this a grading set coin?

I just purchased this off of eBay. I have seen other confirmed grading set coins with similar pedigrees ( the letter G followed by 2 or 3 numbers), but I've never seen one ending with an asterisk. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Apparently someone's pedigree coin that was reholdered at least once since a zero was added to the seven digit certification number.

    **CERT VERIFICATION #07453266

According to the PCGS Certification Database, the requested certification number is defined as the following:

No idea, but I like it as a collectible slab!

Yes it is from the grading set. Here is one of mine with the asterisk. Not sure what it means but it is a part of the original set.

Why else would you holder that coin?

It's probably worth more in the slab it's in than in a new slab with a slightly higher grade.

Awesome! You have multiple coins from the grading set? Do you have a link to anything regarding the grading set? I want to study up.

No real link on it out there. They only recently were discovered. They were on display at the Long Beach show years ago and dissappeared. Were used as a reference for pcgs graders.

I believe @illini420 had a bunch. He may chime in.

    Well, that's cool.
If it really is from a PCGS grading set, I wonder how or why they they let it go.
Maybe they found another F15 that they liked better?

They made the grading set available to the graders online through high definition digital pictures. Some of these coins are plate coins for their grades on Pcgs photograde as well.

Are there ways to get copies of the photographs?

That is interesting... I never saw coins from the grading set.... Someone must know what the asterisk means... maybe nothing, but curious why it would be there. Cheers, RickO
